En 2015, la France a été le premier pays à reconnaître l’obsolescence programmée comme un délit, rappelle France Culture.

Le Code de la consommation français punit désormais le recours à des techniques qui réduisent délibérément la durée de vie d’un produit mis sur le marché par une peine de deux ans d’emprisonnement et de 300 000 euros d’amende.

Mais dix ans plus tard, aucune sanction juridique n’a jamais été prise pour ce motif.
