I read your words slowly, and with great care, stunned at the realization that this is only part of what you've been going through in your transition.
You've taken agony and perseverance, fear and tenacity, despair and hope, and threaded them together to create a kind of safety net for yourself. We should be the ones to shelter you from harm, but you've wisely built a protective shield from your experiences to safeguard your mind, body, and spirit.
No one wants to be known just for their courage or the ability to overcome. We also see your kindness, creativity, wit, and vibrancy. To be fully known is to be fully alive.
And we are grateful for you.

I will tell you that the first trans friends I ever made were through a very progressive Methodist church, in the 90s, which might surprise you. In addition to welcoming everyone, it was very important to the church board to include our trans members and friends in every single aspect of the life of the church. So, we always had trans folks serving as ushers, helping to feed the homeless, singing in the choir, serving on the financial committee, reciting the scripture verses for that Sunday, lighting the Advent and the Paschal candle, and serving communion.
What a concept, right? Treating everyone with dignity and respect, without exception. This should be a core principle of the social contract.

We need more people and parishioners like you and your congregation in this world. Are they still around?

They are still around, but they seem to have gone through too many leadership changes to keep a steady membership.
I am unsure about what the environment is like now. But, they gave me a good foundation in terms of what is possible.
