Onvoorspelbare Trump deed wat hij gezworen had niet te doen volkskrant.nl/buitenland/onvoo…

in reply to Diligence Jones

I mean, I'm not dumb.
I'm vaguely aware of the propagandistic BS of the US saying we 'are bringing democracy' to these countries we interfere with.

But...if I was going to give the US a grade on its success rate, I mean, come on.

Everything the US touches is literally a bag of poo for the people there.

Everywhere.

God we suck.

I think I was about 12 when the US bombed Libya. I was very worried about it. I wrote in my diary, “Why does America think it’s the world’s police?”

You know what'd be a real shame? If those vehicles didn't work anymore before they made it on the tow truck. That'd be a bummer.

The internet blackout in #Iran is ongoing and I am trying to find information about how its actually enacted. Hearing that local services are working. Would like to understand how exactly the blackout is enacted. Are they filtering IP blocks? Are all .ir domains still accessible? The media keeps talking about it like it's a big on off switch but that's obviously not the case

Maybe here will be some useful technical information? :dragnthink:

According to bgp.he.net and stat.ripe.net BGP routing is fine, i guess. And i can ICMP-ping site of biggest iranian ISP - tic.ir (resolving to IP-address of iranian IP-block). And i can resolve domains on .ir DNS-servers ([a-d].nic.ir). But HTTP(S) to tic.ir site dont work. So i think its firewall with DPI, or they just allowed only infrastructure-critical service protocols like DNS, BGP, etc.

I read a post recently that decried making #art for art’s sake in such troubled times.

I heartily disagree.

Making art, no matter the purpose, brings joy and beauty into a world sorely lacking in both. Sure, art can be a form of protest, but let’s not be limiting the Muses when we need them most.

mastodon.social/@donthatedontk… Not sure if my post falls into the category you're talking about but for me the point wasn't to stop making art but to not let that be the beginning and the end of what you do in the face of fascism. The person's words were "make art because it makes fascists angry" and not only does this take an individualistic and atomized approach to politics rather than a systemic one, it's like, okay, they're angry. And....? What's changed? What did I materially accomplish?
in reply to donthatedontkill

@donthatedontkill I don’t discount the power of protest art. However, I neither believe that art is *the* answer to fascism nor that artists living in a repressive society are obliged only to make “protest art.” To your point, protecting one’s community against fascism requires more than art. And limiting one’s creative endeavors to the explicitly political is, frankly, artistically stifling. The Muses have more to give than just commentary on contemporary politics.

In times of stress I like thinking about ginkgo trees and looking at their leaves. I have so many trinkets with them as a motif because of how weird and pretty they are, and how very very long they've survived as a living fossil of sorts.

Trump’s attack on Iran is ‘unconditional surrender’ to Israel

#geopolitics #imperialism #war

Since his election in 2016, Donald Trump’s political opponents have portrayed him as a dangerous, unstable fabulist doing the bidding of a malign, nuclear-armed foreign power.

Having returned to the White House this year, Trump is proving his detractors correct on all counts but one: the location on the map. The rogue state that he’s colluding with — at great peril to the planet — is not Russia, as his most vocal detractors alleged, but Israel.

Had to run a (driving) errand this weekend, which is unusual for me, but I did get to try out the new DIY bicycle jersey bag I sewed shopping. Works great!
