It's good that bigger mainstreamer people such as John Oliver are also talking about the "AI slop" era and phenomenon. I do think he was a bit too charitable though.
AI slop is not just bad visuals, it's the esthetic of modern fascism.

This story is a window into the difference between Europe and America. A Microsoft employee was laid off in Denmark but due to employee protection laws, they have 6-months on the payroll and 3 months severance.
So this employee keeps going to work since they’re getting paid even though they’re officially unemployed.
Contrast this to America where people were cut off immediately after a 1-on-1 with their manager where they learned they’d been laid off without severance.

I still show up to Microsoft office after layoffs and 23-year career

when I was laid off by Microsoft in 2010 I actually got, I think, 2 months on payroll with full benefits and no duties, and use of the office facilities until they shut it down (which they were doing).
The theory, as far as I know, was that if I found another job within the company (not inconceivable, though I didn't), they'd save the cost of laying me off and re-hiring me. But I guess they've stopped doing that.
27% of maritime oil traffic goes through the Strait of Hormuz which is located between Iran and Oman.
Trump's illegal unilateral bombing of Iran has put this route at risk of disruption and looks like oil prices may rise as a result, which curiously enough would be good news for the russian economy.

Many folks have asked us about auto-bridging Bluesky like @aphyr has, and it's a good question!
There's two reasons for not flipping that switch:
1. Costs! Bsky has a huge userbase, and Bridgy Fed / @anewsocial is currently mostly self-funded with some community support (ty!). Onboarding a large swath of users isn't something we can afford at the moment. If you'd like to support us, we have a Patreon patreon.com/anewsocial and merch store.anew.social/ (1/3 🧵)

In another sense though, this will prolong the war or whatever people are calling it. Any continuance will cause needless bloodshed.
