If you're wondering where FEMA's funding is going, it's going to fund prison camps.

"...A: Yes, the immigrant detention facility in Florida, dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz,” is being “funded largely” by the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Shelter and Services Program..."

Rather than #AlligatorAlcatraz it is more properly #AlligatorAuschwitz. Alcatraz caged criminals, where as these new projects are expressly for ethnic cleansing.

is tragic too. Article mentions 27 already dead and 25 children missing from a summer camp. This is just the first of many to come. Is this what an efficient government looks like?

Texas officials were quick enough to blame the people whose jobs were cut by DOGE. Blame the department with funding cut by DOGE, courtesy of T.

Hot take:
Everybody who works on any desktop software application, but especially web browsers, should be required to regularly use the application they develop on a computer with an HDD instead of SSD.
Because boy howdy, let me tell you, it sure is something when Firefox takes five minutes to launch to the point where you can actually load a page.

(Brought to you courtesy of my having to temporarily migrate my primary PC from SSD to HDD because my SSD is failing and I don't currently have a spare SSD sitting around and don't want to lose my data in the time it takes me to get one.)

Another discovery from temporarily switching from SSD to HDD…
Synology Drive installs MIME types at startup using `xdg-mime install`, which calls `update-mime-database ~/.local/share/mime`. This was taking so long that Drive's app indicator launch was timing out and crashing.
It turns out at some point in the past, probably due to a bug that has since been fixed, GNOME installed _all_ the system MIME types in my home directory.
I deleted them and restarted Drive and my app indicator is back.

Switching from SSD to HDD also prompted me to find and fix three different bugs in the Python inotify package:

Unfortunately, the maintainer hasn't put out a release in seven years or merged any commits to master in five years, despite multiple PRs submitted in that time, so I suspect the project is dead.
We'll see if I can resist the urge to fork it and start maintaining it again.
in reply to Jonathan Kamens 86 47

That's where your fork becomes the master, LOL. I know you have no desire for that, of course.
in reply to AI6YR Ben

@ai6yr Yeah, I've taken over numerous packages over the years and ended up becoming the maintainer because I wanted the package to keep existing.
I'm getting too old for that shit.
in reply to Jonathan Kamens 86 47

also HDDs need defragmenting, which I totally forgot about over the last years. It's amazing how much the physics of the media's implementation details can totally change the top level user experience
