Such a regal form! I tried so hard to find a way to name our tiger-striped tabby Tora but it just didn't stick. My wife named him Donut and it is the perfect name for him. #CatsOfMastodon

It is strange to review a music video, but Buzzy Lee's masterpiece Strange Town deserves some praise. I think Buzzy Lee, who co-directed the music video with Jeff Leeds Cohn knew that they didn't know what they were doing. So the whole thing, spoiler alert, is poking fun at their own directing.

I can hear fireworks shows, so here's the current air quality for Los Angeles from purple air's 2.5 pm sensors
this is most of Los Angeles county. long Beach to sun city, malibu to glendora. Currently most of the sensors are 50 close to the ocean to about 75 in the SGV. there's a big lack of sensors in the center of the mapwhere all the poor minority people were forced to live. There's a few red 150 sensors in long beach, hawthorn, exposition park, and a 230 aqi near los feliz.

Looks like we're almost back to our regular Los Angeles bad air.

Here's a plot from my home assistant instance that's reading my closest airnow.gov/ AQI indicator.

Air now's measurements differ from purple air in they're more accurate where the sensor is, and includes ozone in the air quality measurement, but there's far fewer sensors than with purple air.

Also the purple air sensors measure particulate pollution which is a big chunk of what fireworks and fires produce. Ozone is more a product of combustion or volatile organic compounds.

Around 8pm yesterday July 4th it was just over 50 AQI. it then climbs up over the next few hours, hitting a maximum of 288 around July 5th 6:30 am. it's slowly fell to 260 AQI about 11:30 and then started falling more steeply. Around 3pm it reached 100 AQI, but then it went back up a bit ti 120 AQI until 5:30 pm before finally falling to 80 at 7pm.

And funny thing about those volatile organic compounds (VOCs) apparently we've gotten enough emission controls onto our cars that now heat stressed trees are turning into the largest source of ozone precursor molecules

"Combining results with temperature patterns down to a resolution of 4 kilometers squared (about 2.5 miles squared), the team determined that botanical sources of VOCs, which include compounds like isoprene, monoterpenes, and sesquiterpenes, contributed to around 60 percent of the potential formation of secondary organic aerosols at the start of the LA summer."
