Next, companies tried giving executives stock to ensure that their incentives were aligned with the company. This led to executives chasing short-term gain so that they could double the price of their stock and dump it.
So they changed the stock to vest over a five-year window, meaning that you didn't get most of your money if the stock price crashed rapidly. This led to executives chasing bubbles so that, at the very least, their early stock would rapidly grow and they could dump it, but ideally they could jump from bubble to bubble and keep the stock price increasing.
Perhaps the solution is simpler: don't promote people to CxO if money is their primary motivation. The base salary for these people is well into the 'could retire and never work again after a few years' level. If they need extra financial in
