Q3. Can someone point to a guide on how to adjust my front derailer? I can shift up, but when I try to shift down it just stays on the larger gear. Only fix is to turn the bike upside down and move the chain by hand.

I am in Chico, California and have somehow turned in drafts on three major wildfire planning projects in the last couple of weeks. Feeling relieved at work.
Biking has been minimal because fuck this tule dog, but I have been playing a lot of drums with new projects and working on bonsai in the garage during evenings.

(Amendment VIII) Sorry, your under arrest for trying to survive in public spaces in the middle of winter/heatwave after the city/state/federal has taken everything from you and there is absolutely no place to go to get out of the weather.
A short time ago, #Trump decided that 771,000 people have no US Constitution rights when he declared it #Illegal2BHomeless across the entire country. Not only do we now have to be on the lookout for city cops, shariffs, state cops, National Guards (that also forgot the oath we say when joining the US Military), we have to be looking for everyday haters who won't hesitate to kill us for simply not having a paid for place to live.
But the silence continues.

But, it potentially sounds like you front derailleur spring and/or shifter has something broken, too. Or, the derailleur wire is corroded and isn't allowing the spring on the front derailleur to pull back to the lower gear. (the lower gear is the "normal" position for the derailleur mechanism, assuming it is adjusted correctly).
