To be fair, mastodon.social is way way too large, not surprised that they find these features unmanageable ๐ฆ The live feeds are designed for a decentralised network where people are spread out on lots of reasonably sized servers rather than a supergiant.
Hopefully this is just an option for an admin to switch them off if they want to rather than remove them from every server.
