He was deported to #Auschwitz from #Westerbork in August 1942. He was murdered in a gas chamber after arrival selection.

He knew it was a danger; I understand he had a lot of reservations about what he was doing; he did it anyway. It's like Tolkien meticulously drew a marvellously detailed and fantastically elaborated portal to Middle-Earth on a concrete wall, knowing very well that he was doing nothing whatever to change the substance of the wall, nor to change the minds of those like to build concrete walls. And then #capitalism and Peter Jackson and a lot of other people figured that the best way to honor that achievement was smashing the wall to bits and recreating the marvelous pictures in computer simulation, on a million server banks, in the pursuit of billions and trillions of dollars.
