This is simple: in our system the government is elected by a majority of voters, and that is presumed to reflect the majority interest of the people as a whole. So people in TX, LA, and MS are barbarians. They shouldn't have libraries. Their kids should not be well educated and should not get good jobs, because that is the choice that their parents made.

You can not insulate people in a democracy against their own choices.

Of course the outcome of a vote does *not* reflect the majority interest of people as a whole, but we presume that it does -- it's what our system is based on. So our system should end, we should not have a state, and then we can stop presuming this.

But while we have one, stop treating people as children who don't know what they're doing.
