"Prediction" is not done by scientists.

We don't say beforehand that a thing will happen.

We might extrapolate. Model. Estimate. All of these near synonyms imply uncertainty, using a method that can be described and also updated. An outcome that can be altered.

Predict OTOH: implies certainty. Just trust us. Dogma.

The words we use to describe what we do are important.
