I didn't like the reboot Lara Croft! as a kid, the Lara I fell in love with was the sexy, sassy, ultra-confident adrenaline junkie anti-hero who was undoubtedly sort of a terrible person but was always up against something much worse than her!! I thought she was very cool actually!!!
not all female protagonists have to be hot, obviously! but idk, Lara Croft being a hottie who also Raids Tombs and is Very Competent was part of why I found her so iconic as a kid so I personally really want to get back to that version of Lara
if I wanted a gritty story about a thoughtful and culturally-sensitive female protagonist who starts out of her depth but ends up overcoming impossible odds (and I do, actually) I would play a DIFFERENT game that is NOT Tomb Raider
tbh, I maintain as a feminist who is also attracted to women that it's Okay to have hot female protagonists, even hot female protagonists designed to appeal to the male gaze, as long as that female protagonist is also interesting. specifically: she should be interesting even to people who are not attracted to women.
