We all knew this was a lie, but no one of consequences had the balls to say a word when it happened. This is why we have a liar as a president.

I've finished: When the Sparrow Falls by Neil Sharpson

This is a story about a Soviet style East European dystopia. As someone who grew up in the late 80s it really appealed to me.

An ideology turned into an authoritarian nightmare and the people that get ground up in the wheels.

It is Sharpson's ability to personalize those people as they get crushed in the gears that makes this a great novel.

It's a bit strange to read a novel in 2025 where the AI future is viewed in a positive light. But it was published in 2021, before AI became synonymous with LLMs.

It was interesting reading When The Sparrow Falls at the same time as The Ragpicker, a novel where the digitization of human consciousness and virtual reality are the cause of the apocalyptic nightmare.

#WritersCoffeeClub 14/12: Share how you tackle a first round of revisions.
I see lots of others are saying there is no first round and they edit as they go. I’m the same, and any ‘rounds’ of revision that ensue are impossible to count in whole numbers. I like to say they’re fractal—and, yes, the word is associated with chaos theory.

Here's an alt-text description of the image:

The image depicts two figures in a dark, atmospheric setting, surrounded by foliage and candlelight. One figure is clad in a dark, ornate coat with prominent wings extending from the back, and a dark hat, holding a smoking pipe. The second figure wears a long, vibrant red dress and is being held or embraced by the first. The scene is lit by a scattering of small candles placed amongst the plants and rocks, creating strong shadows and a sense of depth. The background is a dense forest with a blurred effect, emphasizing the foreground figures.

The figure in the coat has pale skin and white hair, and is holding a pipe in their mouth with smoke visible. The figure in red has darker hair and a pale complexion. The coat features intricate designs and a high collar. The surrounding foliage appears lush but slightly overgrown, with rocks and moss visible. The overall mood is mysterious and somewhat gothic.

OK, now I have the RasPi Pico 2 W so that it's connecting to my wifi, and making HTTP POST requests to a web server. The requests represent any of the buttons on the LCD hat, formulates a path to POST to for each one, and I have a python script that returns raw RGB565 bits that the Pico receives, then displays onscreen.

Now I can make a dungeon crawler for the Pico.

it's impressive how powerful these small devices are these days. having bluetooth and wifi makes them a lot more useful, too.

unrelated: does mcp have any viable use for manual tools

like spellcheck asking a dictionary for words (neither of which actually making LLM calls)

i assume not really and that since its json-rpc you'd just add other endpoints for those instead, but was worth asking :blobcatshrug2:
