I used to use it, but it's pretty noisy.

The other thing would be to do a uname -a and then look at the kernels installed in dpkg to see if there's a newer one. I'm on FreeBSD now, but I think it's dpkg -l linux-image* |grep ^.i, or possibly kernel-image, I forgot.

It integrates into apt and automatically prompts me about restarting services after installations/upgrades then handles restarting the ones I select.
