Switching to AMD GPU for better gaming performance?

OS: CachyOS

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070

Board: MPG B550 GAMING PLUS

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X (16) @ 4.43 GHz
Memory: 31.26 GiB

i try to keep it short: i have issues with some games (like the witcher 3) and often hear that its an issue with nvidia drivers etc..

So my question is: would a switch / small upgrade to a AMD Radeon 6800 be worth it?

Edit:
Small updates:
- witcher 3 was an example. I play newer stuff. But my partner is paying witcher 3 and it lags, while I had to just tune down some settings in horizon remaster.
- I would buy an used and sell mine (would get around the same price on eBay ±40€

It boils down to D3D12 being slower on NVIDIA on Linux and it’s a known issue. There is some work being done on this by NVIDIA and VKD3D-Proton, but I wouldn’t hold my breath knowing how long things take to improve on NVIDIA side. If you get good deal on RDNA2 or newer, it works incredibly well today.

Do not. Amd gpu drivers are completely broken, they reset every 10 minutes and it takes years to fix. Amd has thousands and thousands of issues open and doesn't care

I can count on 1 hand the number of GPU driver resets I've had this year, and they all started when I got my new 9070XT, and stopped when I nuked my multiple years old Arch install.

HM, the only question I have on that point is, what let you think that they dont care about their issues?

Violence committed by extreme Israeli settlers in the West Bank has surged amid the genocide in Gaza.

UN figures suggest that more than 3200 Palestinians have been forcibly displaced by settler violence and restrictions since October 7, 2023.

The attacks have intensified in recent months as Palestinians harvest their olive trees in an annual ritual.

The head of the World Health Organization said Saturday that at least 10 people in the Gaza Strip have died in the last 24 hours from heavy rainfall, as thousands of displaced Palestinian families shelter in tents with little protection from harsh winter conditions.

Israel has killed more than 70,300 victims, mostly women and children, and injured over 171,000 in attacks in Gaza since Oct.2023, which have continued despite a truce.

In 7 days I only received $100, not $200 as shown. I need a place to protect me from the winter. The war isn't over yet. The suffering is worse than ever. Please donate for my young children. chuffed.org/project/148450

Historic moment!

This weekend a "non-technical" friend and me installed #Debian 13 on their notebook computer, removing their previous OS. They is happy!

Historic moment, because I'm promoting #freeSoftware for three fckng decades to them. Now it's done.

Next step: Convince them of using the #Dino #Jabber client instead of unencrypted email with me. Maybe next decade?

As I have to support them #KDE is not an option as I am a "burned child" and won't pick KDE anymore. 😂

Much of the developed world is watching how the Australian under-16 social media ban is working, with critics already claiming in the UK, that Keir Starmer has a 'blindspot' on the damage social media has wrought on the young....

The key argument in the UK against following the Australian example will, as usual, be that such a ban can be (relatively easily) circumvented - see VPN usage & pornography!

But on this we shouldn't let the perfect be the enemy of the good!

@anantagd a good response might be but as anyone vaguely tech literate will tell you this is not a good one, nor is the OSA achieving anything except feeding personal documents to scammers, something we will be paying for for years in fraud even if it was stopped today
in reply to Emeritus Prof Christopher May

Isn't the key argument that no one has yet designed a privacy- and liberty-preserving way to do age verification?
ISTM that the VPN argument is just "it doesn't help" whereas this one is "it actively harms".

An Israeli drone strike hit a vehicle near the Nabulsi junction in the west of Gaza City on 13 December, with local sources reporting at least four people killed, in what Israel claimed was a targeted assassination of a “key” Hamas official.

Israeli army officials claimed the intended target was senior Qassam Brigades commander Raed Saad.

Finished chapter 2 and have had to convince myself I didn’t completely screw up the ability of the main character to investigate the thing he’s supposed to investigate. And I’m probably going to have to make passes on this story to clarify the football stuff for the non-football-loving urban-fantasy-ish fans. #writing
