#Russia oil and gas revenue in December projected to be down almost 50% compared to 2024, sinking to lowest level since 2020

Decline to $5.17bn in December due to lower global oil prices and stronger ruble, as well as US and int'l sanctions

hey, people knowledgeable in #electronics , I have a dumb question:

I have a 16x16 panel of rgb leds (WS2812B ? not 100% sure, but 5v IN)

I want to pilot it with a RP Pico 2W.

If I have a beefy enough USB charger / battery, is it safe for everyone to use the usb plug of the RP Pico, and get the 5v Vin power for the panel from the Vbus pin of the RP pico? Will it provide safely the multiple amps the panel needs? (how much exactly? can't find) for full white light?

If they had bothered to use the proper connector in this day and age (Type C) then you might have been OK with up to 3A or even 5A. But with the micro-B, probably more like 1.5A or so is safely supported.

Radio Erevan a répondu : « En principe, oui. Mais Moscou est de loin une ville plus belle. »

After being told my example of a non-sheafifiable presheaf in a recent blog post (a repost of a very old post from last decade) just didn't work.... I realised why. I was taking a shortcut by trying to consider a restriction of Waterhouse's example to the category of all Fields, but then relying on the original example that was evaluated on the tensor product of fields (which isn't a field!).

I thought this was innocuous, because I knew that the flat pretopology on Aff restricts to a coverage (that isn't a pretopology on Field^op) and so one should just think about the sheaf condition using the coverage-style approach instead. But I never actually checked this! And the way the contradiction arises for the presheaf on Aff just cannot happen, because we don't get two different maps like for \(K \to K\otimes_kK\).

When I get time I'm going to have to either wholly update the blog post that's there, or edit it to point to a new blog post, or take it down and make a new post entirely. Thoughts?

I appreciated the private feedback from a very prominent expert that was gentle and took the time to follow-up after a different email exchange. And I'm surprised no one picked it up and called me out on it all those years ago! But maybe I just wasn't followed by people with the right kinds of expertise to see where I was going wrong.

Since the old material is already written, I feel there is value in leaving up the post and to note where the error is. I think one can learn from someone else's mistakes, and it can be interesting to follow someone's line of thinking because that can spur new ideas. How that ends up looking is more stylistic, If you have a desire to say anything interesting about Waterhouse's work as a new blog post, you could use your error as a way to introduce the shortcut you were trying to take.

Regardless, I do agree with those who feel that the sciences and math get presented too sterile where progress follows very linearly and cleanly and all of the messy red herrings and tangents get covered up in the end, which is why I enjoy reading books about the history of math and science. Since you have already written the old material, it would be a shame to just delete it all and not preserve it for posterity or not use it as a teaching moment.
