Fatal Crash of Russian An-22 Giant Ends Era for World’s Largest Turboprop

A rare and massive Antonov An-22 Antey military transport aircraft has crashed in the Ivanovo region northeast of Moscow, claiming the lives of all seven crew members onboard. The disaster occurred earlier today during a critical test flight, marking a tragic potential end to the operational life of the Soviet-designed heavy lifter.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the aircraft was conducting a check flight immediately following technical repairs when it went down in an unpopulated area.


Methinks maintenance in Russia is perhaps not quite up to par.

The An-22 Antey (NATO reporting name “Cock”) holds a unique place in aviation history as the world’s largest turboprop-powered aircraft.

The DREAM Team at Solorio High School on the Southwest Side has collected more than $6,000 for their classmates. The student club has historically worked on college access but expanded its focus to include more advocacy work this year.

They said we would have a LIGHT dusting of #snow today. They were obviously wrong. 🌨️
This is a photo from my window. You can see the street is covered in a lot of snow and the snow plows have been by to clear the street. There is a condo unit with a lot of snow on the roof, the sky is gray, snow is falling heavily, and there's a tree just a few feet from my window. All the small branches are covered in a pretty layer of snow.

Pretty, pretty #snow. I love the way it just lands on branches and rests there. I'm so thankful that I don't have to go outside and shovel anymore. ❄️ ☃️
This is a photo from my deck. There's snow along the railing and resting on each of the branches of my star magnolia tree just off the deck. You can see a huge pine tree in the background covered in snow, along with a few rooftops with a white blanket on them.
