‘It’s not a coincidence’: journalists of color on being laid off amid Trump’s anti-DEI push

in reply to Jeff Jarvis

Sad, though predictable, to see so many mainstream media outlets who once trumpeted their #DEI efforts readily abandon them under #Trump. I canceled #ParamountPlus earlier this year for that reason (having already canceled #DisneyPlus in 2024).

Sad news today as the historic former railway bridge over the River Spey at Garmouth has partly collapsed into the river. It can no longer be crossed, which means that the Moray Coast Trail cannot now be completed in full. Thanks to Rachael Millar for providing the photos. //contd
in reply to walkhighlands

The next nearest bridge is the A96 bridge near Fochabers. Reaching this would involve an 11km total detour - on roads to Mosstodloch, then a section on the extremely dangerous A96 (strongly advised against), then back on the other side of the river using the Speyside Way.

We'll update when we hear any updates on what is planned for the future of this route.

How do I keep PulseAudio from randomly changing the volume?

I'm on OpenSuse Tumbleweed (although I'm pretty sure I noticed the behavior on Manjaro, too).

The problem is that the volume of e.g. Firefox gets turned down for no reason. I noticed that a youtube video was quite quiet. I then checkt pavu control and saw that the volume for Firefox was set to 83%. I set it back to 100, but after the pc resumed from standby, it was at 83 again. Sometimes it's enough to just pause the video for it to move the volume back down.

Why is that and how do I disable this functionality?

in reply to marius

Afaik Youtube is doing that, not Pulseaudio, and there's nothing that can be done about it.
in reply to Zamundaaa

Seems like you're right. I just noticed that when you right click the video -> Stats for Nerds, there's "volume/normalized" and when it says 83%, pulseaudio will also be 83%.

I guess there might be some way to tell pulseaudio to ignore the volume of the video player

Conseil de l’intelligence artificielle et du numérique : quelles priorités pour 2026 ?

Vous pouvez répondre à la consultation et contribuer au débat !

in reply to Éric Freyssinet

C'est aussi malhonnête que beaucoup d'autres consultations. Le plus beau, la question où un des items est « La protection des droits des utilisateurs et la concurrence. » On ne peut répondre qu'aux deux en bloc (je suis pour le premier terme seulement).
in reply to Stéphane Bortzmeyer

Mais un point positif est qu'on a le droit de ne pas répondre (ce que j'ai fait pour la plupart des questions, comme celle de savoir si on est inquiet ou enthousiaste : quel intérêt ?)
