Ukraine is now begging the EU for $1.5 trillion over the next 10 years.

$800 billion is for "reconstruction"
and $700 billion for "military purposes"

If you had to pray to a cheese for strength and luck, which kind would you pick?

  • hard cheese (58%, 378 votes)
  • soft cheese (18%, 119 votes)
  • holey cheese (20%, 130 votes)
  • processed cheese product (3%, 23 votes)
650 voters. Poll end: in 10 hours

Hard cheese, because it’s tougher than soft cheese, and I like to eat soft cheese so it seems less likely to answer my prayers

This is one of the reasons I look forward at some point to getting a Costco membership. You know those peanut butter and jelly jars are going to be ridiculously big, and getting loaves of bread for a reasonable price doesn't hurt either.
in reply to snow rat

We hav a Costco near us that sells Dave's 2 pack. It normally sells for $6.59. Costco sells it for $9.50. Definitely worth it.
in reply to Nicks World

It's partly because of it being nade fresh, i think, it can't last as long in large shipments
in reply to snow rat

@ratking Yeah, that makes sense. It's not like snacks that are processed and can be put in bulk becuase they last longer.
in reply to snow rat

@ratking I've seen this too, but they're bigger loaves than what you get at Walmart or similar.
in reply to Nicks World

sometimes they can be, there's been down sizing at a lot of stores as of late
in reply to snow rat

@ratking When I go to a store, say, Costco. I expect a level of treatment there that they deliver on. If I'm buying good products, well, i know its not gonna be the cheapest thing out there, and they run their business mostly at a loss. Regardless, I don't feel its a ripoff.
in reply to Nicks World

@ratking The evidence, with respect, is against you. Costco' does not run many, if any, aspects of their business at a loss. Their stock is near the $1000 mark, and institutional investors don't spend that money on something which makes losses.
in reply to Tech Singer

@techsinger @ratking That's long term. SHort term, especially in regards to their food court, they're running at a loss.
in reply to Nicks World

@ratking the food court is, I think, the only aspect where they may be, and even then it may just be loss leaders, specific items, rather than the entire project. Outside of that, I would be very interested in knowing how you know anything else is running at a loss because that's not what I'm seeing.
in reply to Tech Singer

@techsinger @ratking I obviously don't work there so I don't know everything but they regularly give their customers good deals on products that other stores don't match, because they can afford to do it.
in reply to Nicks World

@ratking I would be interested in seeing the evidence on that one. It's not been my experience.
in reply to Nicks World

@ratking better prices per unit, probably not. Better prices for a particular product, possibly. Also keep in mind all I'm saying that CC doesn't work at a loss on the vast majority of its business. For some products, it undoubtedly has better pricing because you're buying in bulk.
in reply to Tech Singer

@techsinger @ratking Most of the things that CC sells are also a part of their Kerkland brand. Making and selling that brand of products is far less expensive than anything. The bulk also helps.
