For decades, we’ve been told 80% of the world’s biodiversity is found on Indigenous lands – but it’s wrong

Everyday people understandably rely on information quoted by scientists. But when that information turns out to be incorrect, things get complicated.

For more than two decades, the claim that 80% of biodiversity occurs on the territories of the world’s Indigenous Peoples has been treated as fact. It has taken root in public discourse as an established truth.

The figure, however, is wrong, as we show in a comment article published today in the leading science journal Nature.

There is ample evidence showing Indigenous Peoples and their territories are essential to the world’s biodiversity. We don’t need an unsupported statistic to prove it.

Anker’s sleek whole home backup solution heads to Europe.

The modular Solix X1 already announced for the US is now available in Europe in single- or three-phase configurations. LFP battery capacities start at 5kWh and expand to 180kWh with up to 36kW of power output. That’s enough to juice any device — even your EV — for hours, days, or indefinite operation when integrated with solar.

Think Powerwall, but not from Elon Musk.

Was looking for a non-subscription no-login #TextExpander app that's a bit better than #iOS keyboard #TextReplacements.

I found #Espanso. Almost gave up on it. Had trouble getting started finding* base.yml on my MacBook and making sense of the instructions. By accident*, I got to the base.yml and got it to open in the text editor.

Many #opensource #apps I've encountered have documentation that assumes some techie knowledge. To me, it's like their basic* starts at intermediate*. 🙄 #NotATechie

#Microsoft and #Google should really put few million to GCC-Rust because they are the main corporate entities pushing the Rust code to the mainline.

Blame them instead of maintainers.

I started a new job, where TDD wasn't used from the beginning.
For this reason, updating #Python from 3.10 to a later version is not going to be a matter of changing a dockerfile and fixing what breaks (2h task) but it's going to be a serious endeavor that might take days or more.

Kids, love yourself, love your future self and *use TDD*.

The UK's railroad minister, in his previous job, threatened to deny contracts arbitrarily to an engineering company unless it bullied a worker into ceasing to raise safety concerns. In response, the company fired him. I am not competent to judge the validity of those …

So folks the moral of this story is, if you are honest and hard working but want to get in to politics you have few prospects, if you are a patheitc slimeball who is in it for yourself and no one else, you will rise the ranks.

Not really want we want from our political class, there are some good, honest MP out there who are probably held back by the system.
