@mysteriarch @noam @koen_hufkens right, so the focus has to be on class struggle first and foremost, talking about degrowth or any other solutions is just putting the cart before the horse.

The problem with a lot of thse anti-capitalist movements is that they don't provide any tangible path towards ending capitalism. In the end it just amounts to whinging.

Marxist approach identifies the core problem and provides tangible tools for dealing with it.

@noam @koen_hufkens As I understand degrowth, it's squarely anti-capitalist. Of course degrowth is impossible under capitalism.

I've read Huber his Climate Change as Class War (recommended) and he doesn't seem to disagree with the degrowth premises, rather with mainly with it's lack of labor organizing. That is to say, degrowth is more an academic/middle class radical idea than a marxist socialist one.

The most realistic scenario is that we are headed for a crisis, and we should be thinking about mitigation strategies to minimize the coming horrors.

Marxism is good at showing a theoretical way out of capitalism, but not as good on global environmental collapse. I think degrowth is better at mapping out where we can head for a sustainable world both socially and environmentally.

The problem I see is that climate change won't wait for a socialist revolution. If there were a capitalist solution to climate change (which there isn't), then I'd sign up.

Yeahhh I mean I don’t have a Spotify account that actually plays the music you’re trying to play. I got a free one that I never use… it just tries to play me Ed Sheeran before anything I’d actually want to listen to. I did save it but that’s useless to the artists on the playlist 🤣

What we need is an alternative to feckin Spotify

… but seriously, could it be possible for a FLOSS subscription-based player to stream from places like Mirlo as well as individual Faircamp platforms and to be able to divvy out the money made according to whose music is played?

As an example: Say I paid £10 per month to subscribe and my listening was broken down to:
5% Artist A,
4% Artist B,
3% Artist C,
2% Artist D
1% each for 76 other artists
…then 90% of my £10 that month would be paid out to those artists proportionately, saving 10% to go to platform fee (and any profits from that 10% then distributed evenly among all artists played at the end of each financial year).

Yeah definitely, there are a lot of initiatives like that already but I think the problem is they are not interoperable? So each place ends up with quite a small catalog, artists would have to upload things a million times to be on em all haha
