I’m sure removing a perfectly good bus shelter will really encourage public transport use.

Trump is absolutely bombing at the New York Economic Club
in reply to Aaron Rupar

@GottaLaff
Nobody has any idea WTF Trump talking about, which includes him...as it always does. That's "The Weave".
in reply to Laffy

The hair weave serves as an antenna to transmit the voices in his head to spill out of his mouth. You need to be a stable genius to understand it.
in reply to Wiley Miller

It's almost like the only way he got into Wharton was by paying someone to take his entrance exams.
in reply to M.S. Bellows, Jr.

To be fair, lots of schools that are considered quite prestigious have graduated some monumental dumbasses

[cough] yale [cough] [cough] and their school of law, especially [cough] [hocks up a loogie, spits]

in reply to Ivey Janette McClelland

No shit. I loathe every single thing about U.S.C. It's the only college I told my kids they weren't allowed to attend.
in reply to Wiley Miller

Or the University of Shit Canners. Or after 1992,the University of South Central. They forced Black and Latino families out of the surrounding neighborhoods by buying up properties and tearing down businesses. There's always been hostility towards them in the community. My mom, brother and cousins all worked at UCLA. Go Bruins. 💙💛
in reply to Laffy

I went to a lot of football and basketball games as a kid. My mom used to be a regular at football practice, and used to let them have it after a bad game. Especially if they lost to USC.
in reply to Laffy

A big part of why I loathe USC is this case I lost because one USC alum rigged it for another USC alum who rigged it for USC in ways that are even worse than the appellate opinion chose to report – including that the original judge disclosed her conflict of interest in a mailed letter, with a deadline to respond 3 *calendar* days later, over a weekend – and then granted summary judgment for USC sua sponte, WITHOUT USC EVEN MOVING FOR SUMMARY JUDGMENT. (And I'm not even getting into the relationships between the trial judge and the members of this particular three judge appellate panel.)

It was a "reverse discrimination" case, but a righteous one. My client (white) was a project manager for a federal program housed at USC. He wasn't getting sufficient support from his dean, so he approached a different department's dean (Black) about moving the program there. The new Dean made it happen, and then started making racial jokes about my client. The new Dean and his (Black) friend once asked my client to drive them to a meeting in his own car. They both climbed in his back seat, and the dean said, "It's nice to have a white chauffeur." Then the Dean fired my client and hired his friend.

Most reverse discrimination cases are bullshit. This one wasn't. And this one absolutely should not have been dismissed on summary judgment. I'm still furious.

in reply to Laffy

My mom worked in the dorms where the football team stayed. When she came back to work after they lost to USC: "If y'all play football the way y'all party,y'all would have won that game..." She used to let them have it.

I'm incredibly, undyingly grateful to have attended U.C. Davis for both undergrad and law school. The only egotism or entitlement there was the quiet proud knowledge that the education we were receiving was as good as any in the world, but under the radar.
in reply to M.S. Bellows, Jr.

I left Loyola Marymount after 2 years because I felt isolated as one of the few Black students from an inner-city,poor background. I never felt comfortable there. I transferred to Cal State LA across town,a larger school with a diverse population. I dropped out due to family issues.

Sailors hid an unauthorized Starlink on the deck of a US warship—and lied about it

To be fair, it's hard to live without Wi-Fi.

STINKY wifi is the least of the problems with these ships.

"Rep. Adam Smith, chair of the House Armed Services Committee, said, “We can’t use them, number one because they’re not ready to do anything. Number two, when they are, they still break down.”"

cnn.com/2022/05/12/politics/us…

in reply to Ars Technica

Not that it makes it any more secure but the fact that they didn't even hide the SSID (which would've probably lead to the same result as it wasn't even found before the tech) is kinda insane.

The whole affair puts in question their whole netsec... like how did they not manage to locate a wifi hotspot?!? You can do that with any phone... I bet there's plenty of ships and bases out there with non-authorized networks (malicious or not) right now if that's how they deal with it.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday dismissed reports that a cease-fire and hostage swap deal was nearing completion, calling the claims "exactly inaccurate," contradicting statements by US officials.

"There's a story, a narrative out there that there's a deal out there … that’s just a false narrative," Netanyahu said in an interview with US-based Fox News.

"There’s not a deal in the making," he said.

I like the Open Source Pledge.
osspledge.com/

If your institution uses #OpenSource software, it should chip in to pay for it.

We can extend the idea to the #OpenInfrastructure supporting #OpenAccess to research. First, institutions should use open rather than proprietary #infrastructure (see e.g. the #BOAI20, Recommendation 1). Second, when they use it, they should chip in to pay for it.

At a UN Security Council session, Palestinian envoy to the UN Riyad Mansour accuses Israel of employing "genocide" and "apartheid" tactics to achieve colonial aims, saying that Palestinians are suffering "disposition, displacement, devastation, destruction and death.

“Instead of ending the Nakba, Israeli fascist extremist leaders have decided to try to bring it to its ultimate conclusion: Palestine with no Palestinians,” Mansour said.

Today I’m toying with the DJI Neo.

There’s never been a cheaper, easier-to-use DJI drone than the $200 Neo for self-flying selfies.

But I’m so torn. The foldable $350 HoverAir X1 seems better for my social video needs. It filmed my opening shot below! But I love soaring with FPV goggles, which Hover can’t do. Maybe I’ll wait and see if DJI sells a budget FPV bundle.

Book 34: Gevangenis met een open deur, by Jan Terlouw.

Very good YA book about a cult, and how easily some people are sucked into it. Written in 1986, but still quite relevant when you think how disinformation influences people's views.

Thank you for your advice. As you mentioned, Fedify currently has actor URIs consisting of handles. This limitation is due to the early design of Fedify and will be fixed before we release v1.0!
in reply to 洪 民憙 (Hong Minhee)

In the next version of #Fedify, it will allow you to decouple actor URIs from WebFinger usernames with the mapHandle() method. For example, you can use UUIDs for actor URIs but let users use their own username of choice for their fediverse handle.

You can preview it in v0.15.0-dev.382+a8a9b73b: JSR & npm.

Tomorrow we will have our first meeting since the summer holidays.

We are excited to make new plans to push for FOSS in the digital worlds we inhabit.

Because while the need to take back control over our digital lives increases every year, many of our fellow colleagues and fellow students are still (kept) unaware of the urgency.

Hello #fedifriends, I've just realized that #asciidoc & #asciidoctor aren't the same thing, so I was using the documentation of asciidoctor and processing the my document with asciidoc… 🤦‍♂️

I don't know who came late, but the choice of the name is very confused, so now I'd like to know what the #fediversians like to use if asciidoc or asciidoctor, or at least you recommend.

The point is some stuff aren't working because perhaps aren't for ascidoc on the other end asciidoctor is very aggressive on the web search, so unless you don't exclude it from the search it completely eclipses the other one.

Thanks! 🙏
