I just used a #linux command you posted on your blog, to convert an e book to a pdf.

Awesome, thanks 😄

Wishing a Happy 47th Birthday to Voyager 1.

After a year filled with challenges, the NASA Voyager 1 spacecraft is still boldly going where no spacecraft has gone before.

After 47 years in space, it is 24.61 billion km (22.8 light hours) from Earth, traveling at a brisk speed of 61,198 km/h relative to the Sun, sending science data back to humanity from the few instruments that still remain powered on.

February 13-14, 1990 - from a distance of 6 billion km, beyond the orbit of Neptune, Voyager 1 pointed its camera towards the inner solar system and snapped a series of 60 images that were composed to create the first-ever Solar System Family Portrait.

At 04:48 GMT, Feb 14, 1990, Voyager took the images of Earth, the "Pale Blue Dot." 34 minutes later, its cameras were turned off forever to conserve power and since there were no objects in its path left to image.

What's in the future for Voyager?

In 10-15 years, they will not have sufficient power to even communicate with earth but they will trudge on.

Voyager 1 is expected to reach the theorized Oort cloud in ~300 years and pass thru it in ~30,000 years. In about 40,000 years, it will pass within 1.6 light-years of the star Gliese 445, which is 17.1 light-years from Earth. In 300,000 years, it will pass within less than 1 light-year of the M3V star TYC 3135–52–1.

I am sooooo looking forward to the debate.

I still think he’ll bail, but I sure hope I’m wrong about that. #Trump #old #dementia

She is good. So smart & brutally succinct; quick on her feet; aggressive as hell. Which is AWESOME. I'm managing my expectations, but I'm looking forward to this one.

If it happens. Ha.

Linkin Park has a new single out, with a new lead singer. I'm not familiar with her, but she feels... right. #music #LinkinPark #TheEmptinessMachine

I respect that Linkin Park didn’t try to pick a direct replacement for Chester Bennington. Here’s the band performing with their new vocalist, Emily Armstrong. youtube.com/watch?v=K6Hw-UFckH…

Okay wait she’s really good. I haven’t thought about this band in ages but I dig this.

J.D. Vance’s rally at a mega-church with a pastor spewing venomous anti-LGBTQ hate and misogyny is a grotesque display of his true colors. Aligning himself with a figure who dismisses domestic abuse and glorifies bigotry, Vance is not just pandering to extremism—he’s amplifying it. His defense of the pastor is a pitiful attempt to mask his own moral rot. Vance is the embodiment of the Republican Party’s descent into pure evil, using religion as a cloak for his toxic, hateful agenda.

The framing on this story is wild. Summary: as a deadly fungal epidemic in bats spread across the US, increased insect activity resulted in an average 31% increase in pesticide use by local farmers, resulting in an average 8% increase in human infant mortality in affected areas.

And the message is: bats provide important economic benefits.

And yes, very true.

But also: The correlation between pesticide use & infant mortality is that well known & it's still allowed???

I don't know which pitch deck was more ludicrous: this one or the Kushner one that got him $2 billion from Saudi sovereign wealth fund. This wouldn't pass a review by Junior Achievement students. #Trump #TruthSocial meidasnews.com/news/internal-d…

If you are wealthy and powerful it doesn't matter. You can always grift/exploit/tax the powerless. If for some reason you can't grift/exploit/tax the powerless your wealth guarantees you will never have to go hungry, homeless, or without. You are simply playing neoliberal games with the lives of disposable, insignificant powerless people.
