A #game cannot be called #indie if it requires Microsoft #Windows to be installed for the game to run. Indie should mean first that the game developer is independent of corporate oversight; true, but it should also support the independence of users from anti-privacy software.

#Apple may not be the paragon of #privacy that they claim to be, but they do offer the best commercial alternative to and independence from Windows. #Linux support should be a top priority for indie #software and #gaming.

Healthier, happier, fairer: new research shows major life benefits from decarbonising transport

With walking and cycling funding halved in the government’s recently released National Land Transport Programme, and a weaker transport emissions reduction plan, the potential health benefits of a low-carbon transport system have hit a real speed bump.

This is a pity, because one of the great promises of low-carbon transport is the health improvements that can accompany certain policy choices. Health is tangible, while decarbonisation policy is often complex and highly technical. People care deeply about health, both physical and mental.

However, we are now faced with climate and transport policy options that will have radically different implications for health.

To explore this, we looked at two distinct future transport pathways described by the Climate Change Commission. We found the choices New Zealand makes now will be crucial to improving people’s lives in the near future.

The UK’s CMA isn’t happy with Google’s ad tech practices.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has provisionally found that Google “is using anti-competitive practices in open-display ad tech, which it believes could be harming thousands of UK publishers and advertisers.” The CMA has sent Google a statement of objections today, related to the search giant “self-preferencing” itself for ad tech services. It might be years until a final decision is reached, though. The CMA originally opened its investigation in 2022.

This smart ring claims to detect sleep apnea.

The RingConn 2 monitors your SpO2 levels while sleeping and promises 90 percent accuracy after just three hours of wear. The company is in the process of gaining FDA approval for the feature.

In the meantime, the surprisingly lightweight smart ring has the standard health-tracking features — including sleep, activity, stress, and heart-rate monitoring. It costs $299, claims up to 12 days of battery life, and doesn’t require a subscription.

Streng genommen war das ein erfolgreiches Teambuilding. 😈

in reply to Indiefotog

They both kept on walking without any violent action.
I can't guarantee what happened when they were out of sight. ;-)

Programmers have been told they’ll be replaced since shortly after programming was invented.

All of this is amazing, but the idea of an organisation whose main goal is to become superfluous so they can disband is, like, can we have more of that, please?
