Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has reiterated his refusal to reach a prisoner exchange deal, and called for launching a large-scale war against Lebanon.

“We are now paying the price for 30 years of a false perception [..] and therefore we made the monsters of terror in Gaza and Lebanon grow stronger, and this ended during our term, and the war must end only when Hamas and Hezbollah are absent,” Smotrich said.

Before you all get too excited about the arrest of TeleGrab's CEO, let's not forget this is how the Chinese and Indian governments discipline media and telecoms companies. Were you cheering when Modi threatened to arrest Titter employees for not blocking activists and legitimate news organisations? Or when Jack Ma got arrested? Or when Hong Kong media company execs were disappeared by the CCP?

Dictators also drive cars, but we don't generalise based on that.

The means (in this case, nicking a CEO) is a very different topic to the ends for which it's employed.

There's a gulf of difference between a company refusing to filter speech that's critical of $govt and refusing to intervene when CSAM is being shared

> activists ... legitimate news organizations
Are you sure they are? Because what they tend to spout isn't reflected in ground reality.

Florine Gruen Goldfarb, Florida poster child for russian dupe --- from 2018: "Goldfarb was informed that Russian trolls helped coordinate that event and others like it. "I don't go with Russians — come on, give me a break," Goldfarb said.
I have nothing to do with the Russians," she said, insisting, "Those people that were with me were all Trump supporters."
And here folks is the problem. This woman actually could not grasp, refused to even try to grasp the concept that she fell for the russian psyop.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that a Gaza ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal between Israel and Hamas is not imminent, contradicting statements from the White House claiming the opposite, CNN reported on 6 September.

On Sunday, US President Joe Biden said that the parties were on the verge of a deal. On Wednesday, a senior administration official claimed 90 percent of the agreement had been completed.

FEX 2409 Highlights Some Of The Challenges Of Emulating x86 On RISC-V

FEX 2409 has been released for this open-source project that's known for allowing x86_64 Linux binaries -- including both games and applications -- to run rather well on AArch64. It's also been working on enabling x86_64 programs on RISC-V but there due to architectural differences it's more of a challenge than with ARM...

Activist Sarah Wilkinson was reportedly asked to reveal the location of her contacts in Gaza when she was arrested by UK police earlier this week.

She was later released but is banned from using electronic devices.

“The British police asking for locations of individuals inside Gaza is particularly worrying as the UK military shares intelligence extensively with Israel,” Mint Press News said.

Fancy that: I agree with Cass Sunstein here. "Freedom always deserves the benefit of the doubt. The educational mission does not give colleges and universities a green light to punish speech that their alumni, their donors or influential politicians abhor or perceive as harmful."

Ukrainian Khartiia Brigade assaults Russian positions in the Kharkiv region.

As a result of the assault, the soldiers of the 13th Khartiia Brigade of the National Guard killed 34 and wounded 23 enemies, cleared 7 infantry positions and an ATGM firing position, destroyed a howitzer, and drove the enemy to the next line of defense.

Behind every minute of a successful assault are dozens of hours of planning and preparation.

"Workarround"? They provide the option to disable proxy through piped meaning connecting directly to YouTube. Not really a workarround but simply disabling a main feature.

Session now on uses of the MDC Data Citation Corpus (see makedatacount.org/data-citatio…) chaired by Jennifer Lin and featuring Peter O’Donovan and Lynn Woolfrey #MDCsummit
in reply to Make Data Count

Question from Jennifer Lin on what is curreently missing/needs improvement in the corpus? Messiness, other affiliations (partner institutions), going from primary citations to secondary-tertiary-etc., i.e. to see how the data is moving and being re-used.

Clarification that the DC corpus looks at data citations and accession numbers extracted by ML approaches #MDCsummit
