Creating a singleton class by making a custom constructor does work, but it might seem a little bit misleading to someone using this class.

#Earth just sweltered through the #HottestSummer in recorded #history
As #floodwaters coursed through #Texas & #Taiwan, as #mosquito-borne #viruses spread across the #Americas, as lethal #heat struck down children on hikes & grandparents on pilgrimage, the world’s average #temperature this summer soared to the highest level in record history, acc/to new data from Europe’s top #climate agency.

HICPAC's strategy for dealing with the entirely new paradigm uncovered by engineers and aerosol experts in 2021- because, bear in mind,
the work of scientists like Linsey Marr showed that no viruses are spreading via "droplet" alone,
the way scientists formerly conceptualized their transmission
- is utter denial.
It would be too disruptive to decades of infection control norms to acknowledge that SARS-COV-2 came in like a wrecking ball to previous guidance;
thus, HICPAC members are pretending they've never even heard of COVID.
Watching their public facing meetings is bizarre;
hours of academic debates where the pandemic isn't mentioned,
followed by 45 minutes of activists explaining that they are unable to access medical care,
or that their loved ones caught COVID in the hospital and died.
HICPAC members remain utterly stone-faced throughout these sessions and fail to acknowledge the comments at their next session.
As water can wear through stone, steady pressure and semi-confrontation could wear through those stone faces. I sure hope it's sooner rather than later.
It has happened more than once in #neuroscience that what looked very much like a decision when observing the behavior, lost the 'air' of decision-making upon neurobiologiocal scrutiny.
What actually is a decision and how do we best study them?
If I understood what I just read, you are positing that the "losing" stimulus is perceived, but the organism is prevented from acting on it, and here:
>>As an aside: if so, what are the ‘losing’
>>stimuli perceived as?
you are asking about the conscious experience of the organism. Does the "looming threat" look the same as always, or does it look different as a result of blockade of the neurons that would respond to it as a threat?
I was wondering if you have any kind of answer?
Yes, this is precisely what I meant, and I can only speculate what flies may experience.
When drunk, people often don't take dangerous situations seriously, even though they can perceive most aspects. Maybe at the end of courtship, flies experience something related?

The sweltering season reached its apex in late July, when #Copernicus’s sophisticated #temperature analysis program detected the 4 hottest days ever recorded.

To #Copernicus dir Carlo Buontempo, the onslaught…is sobering but not surprising. #Humanity continues to burn #FossilFuels at an ever-increasing pace & the concentration of #CarbonDioxide in the #atmosphere is higher than the world has seen in ~3M yrs, acc/to the #UN Intergovernmental Panel on #ClimateChange.

This summer came on the heels of an unprecedented year-long stretch in which #Earth’s #temperature repeatedly met or exceeded 1.5°C above the preindustrial average — a threshold #science says the world cannot surpass if it hopes to avoid the worst consequences of #ClimateChange.

in reply to Nonilex • • •The scorching conditions were the product of a complex cocktail of #HumanCausedClimateChange & a strong #ElNiño event — a natural phenomenon characterized by warm #temperatures in the #Pacific #Ocean.
Though this El Niño was declared over in June, huge amounts of #energy remained trapped in the #Earth system, Buontempo said, fueling the summer’s extraordinary temperatures.

The #Atlantic #Ocean saw its earliest Category 5 #hurricane on record, while deadly #floods have wreaked havoc from #Italy to #Pakistan to #Nigeria to #China.

“This is very different from what we have seen in the past,” Buontempo said. “Even people working on #SeaIce are puzzled by the extent & the rapidity of the decline.”

Climate clues contained in ice cores, lake sediments & tree rings show that global #temperatures are shifting out of the range they’ve occupied for most of human history.

“But within five to 10 years ... what we’re experiencing right now will be looked back upon as a mild year,” he added. “We are inevitably in for a rough ride.”
