With the on-going Twitter Migration 4.0 happening as of this post, we need this more than ever.
We need to check a lot of accounts with posts but we can't see them. We have to go tumbling and do circus just to confirm if the accounts are legit.
#Mastodon (software) #moderation #Fediverse
It is fine to see “Followers only” posts because technically, it still is “public”, just limited to their followers. We can not make a sound decision if we can not see:
1. the entire thread
2. the context
3. all the other posts of the account
Another reason why it is “okay”, it is part of the moderator's / admin's task to, well, moderate. If there are content that they can not see, they can not do their tasks properly.
If they truly want something to be “private”, then they should use “Mentioned only” or better yet use an e2e chat platform.
The “Followers only” mode is meant for the regular users, not for moderators/admins. Otherwise, as it currently is, it is open for abuse. I wouldn't be surprised if spammers and scammers are already abusing this.

I'm glad for the indications of a Harris victory, but I don't believe that what's best for CEOs and billionaires is best for the country.

Pre-Ordered The ASUS Zenbook S 14 For Intel Core Ultra "Lunar Lake" Linux Testing
With this week's announcement of the Intel Core Ultra 200V Series "Lunar Lake" processors, I've been very eager to try out the Meteor Lake successor for Linux testing. As sadly is usually the case, for delivering Linux support details and performance benchmarks around launch-time I'm typically left buying a laptop retail for Linux testing. In this case …

The Israeli army is using Palestinians as human shields by forcing them to investigate buildings and tunnels in Gaza.
According to an investigation by Haaretz, Israeli soldiers were told by their commanders: “Isn’t it better that our friends will live and not be blown up by an explosive device, and that they get blown up by an explosive device?”
Similar tactics were reported during Operation Defensive Shield, in 2002 during the Second Intifada.

in reply to Philip Bump • • •The way Trump talks, one really does need to translate from his gibberish to regular English.
It's too bad that so many journalists just clean up Trump's gibberish, and by doing so, present Trump as far more coherent than he actually is.

"he operates under the assumption that he can simply talk his way out of any situation. It’s likely that this stems from his career as a salesperson: that he learned to say whatever he needed to close a deal — and then to say whatever he needed to clean up the mess from the promises he made at the outset."

in reply to Philip Bump • • •Cleaning up Trump's speeches, by saying what the press thinks he meant, isn't just making things up. It's lying. It falsely portrays Trump as articulate, while ignoring who he really is.
"Walking through" his speech, as if it made sense, and calling it stream of consciousness, is also a lie. It portrays Trump's gibberish as thought.
When Trump spouts gibberish, that's what he's doing. That's the story. What you think he meant or want him to mean is irrelevant.
