One way to cover Trump's viral child-care-cost answer is to clean it up. Another is to walk through it, using it as a stream-of-conscious look at how he approaches politics. Gift link: wapo.st/3ZxCJLt

Another thought: He has always been surrounded by yes-men (and women) and is accustomed to getting away with anything and everything. Anyone who disagrees with him, is ejected. At the same time, he knows that yes-men are trying to take advantage of him in various ways, so he is also wary of them. It leads to peculiar searching, testing, and circling around some favorite, safe, and substance-free themes, always boasting and promising, but simultaneously keeping others at arms length.

Kroger CEO insists proposed Albertsons merger will lower grocery prices tucsonsentinel.com/nationworld…
The CEOs of both Kroger and Albertsons testified in an Oregon federal court at the midpoint of a three-week hearing on the Federal Trade Commission's attempt to block a proposed merger between the grocery store chains.

Kroger also has some ocean front property for sale in Arizona. If the merger goes through, more than 90 percent of the grocery stores in Tucson will be owned by Kroger and I will never set foot in one of them again.
in reply to Tucson Sentinel

Mergers have never lowered prices to consumers. Mergers give the mega corps bigger profits because they can dominate the supply chain and get lower costs to themselves. Taking away choices, selections and competition never benefits consumers. This should be laughed at.

With the on-going Twitter Migration 4.0 happening as of this post, we need this more than ever.

We need to check a lot of accounts with posts but we can't see them. We have to go tumbling and do circus just to confirm if the accounts are legit.

It is fine to see “Followers only” posts because technically, it still is “public”, just limited to their followers. We can not make a sound decision if we can not see:

1. the entire thread
2. the context
3. all the other posts of the account

Another reason why it is “okay”, it is part of the moderator's / admin's task to, well, moderate. If there are content that they can not see, they can not do their tasks properly.

If they truly want something to be “private”, then they should use “Mentioned only” or better yet use an e2e chat platform.

The “Followers only” mode is meant for the regular users, not for moderators/admins. Otherwise, as it currently is, it is open for abuse. I wouldn't be surprised if spammers and scammers are already abusing this.

I'm glad for the indications of a Harris victory, but I don't believe that what's best for CEOs and billionaires is best for the country.

Pre-Ordered The ASUS Zenbook S 14 For Intel Core Ultra "Lunar Lake" Linux Testing

With this week's announcement of the Intel Core Ultra 200V Series "Lunar Lake" processors, I've been very eager to try out the Meteor Lake successor for Linux testing. As sadly is usually the case, for delivering Linux support details and performance benchmarks around launch-time I'm typically left buying a laptop retail for Linux testing. In this case …

The Israeli army is using Palestinians as human shields by forcing them to investigate buildings and tunnels in Gaza.

According to an investigation by Haaretz, Israeli soldiers were told by their commanders: “Isn’t it better that our friends will live and not be blown up by an explosive device, and that they get blown up by an explosive device?”

Similar tactics were reported during Operation Defensive Shield, in 2002 during the Second Intifada.
