"Nothing is given so profusely as advice."
Maxim 110.

French author François de La Rochefoucauld was born #OTD in 1613.

He was a French moralist of the era of French Classical literature and author of Maximes and Memoirs which portrays the callous nature of human conduct, with a cynical attitude towards putative virtue and avowals of affection, friendship, love, and loyalty.

"We have Europe’s biggest zinc mine in Co. Meath, a gypsum mine in Co. Monaghan splitting Gaelic pitches in half, a gold mine riddled with health and safety woes at Cananacaw, Co. Tyrone... Aughinish Alumina on the banks of the Shannon, and we’re also host to the deluge of unregulated quarries that litter the island. Extraction is business as usual on the emerald aisle."

Illegal Israeli settlers and soldiers stormed several villages and towns in the occupied West Bank overnight Saturday, leading to confrontations with Palestinian residents.

Palestinian Television reported that one person was injured during a raid by settlers who were protected by the army in the village of Umm Safa in northern Ramallah.

The report did not specify the nature or source of the injury.

in reply to Project Gutenberg

it’s extra chilling, the vacuousness of these upper class twits in contrast with the Somme slaughters.

if you like wodehouse, be sure to look for the "wodehouse playhouse". It is a bunch of short videos showing all the predicaments he cooks up for his characters, and it is hysterically funny.

From 16 Sept, the afternoon Madrid>La Linea>Algeciras Intercity train becomes a morning one. Pre-pandemic Renfe ran both morning & afternoon trains, but only one resumed post-pandemic. I've re-written the outward journey on both UK-Morocco & UK-Gibraltar pages. Grrr...

Good morning, all. Good morning, @weirdfolks

It's funny, I don't have a religious bone in my body but I do love a good cathedral.

Ely is a good cathedral…

They are deeply spiritual places, which is not the same as religious. They are places that can help you connect with something more.

That is not religious. That is human.

So true. We visited Coventry Cathedral a while back - the 1960s architecture totally different to the usual Gothic style - and the stillness and sense of spirituality as you ventured through it was palpable.

Swan Warrior WIP steps. Behold the ugly stage!
Here I started out without a particular story, but a very specific idea of a dark silhouette of a cloaked, sword-wielding warrior figure against a light background, using a limited palette with grays and teals.
Basically thinking "this would look cool af, so I wanna paint it".
