Today's plan: sign, box, and ship Total Paperback Mastery bundles to Kickstarter backers, plus ship the #ryoms auction winners.

Looking at this heap, I realize I did not think this through...

Leider kann sich die Presse immer nur auf ein Thema konzentrieren und aufgrund der latenten Krisenlage ist die Klimakrise leider kein Thema mehr, deswegen bitte hier weiterleiten - Danke :°)

Slack is launching AI-powered note-taking for your huddles.

Could be handy, especially if you use a Slack huddle for a video call instead of Zoom, which can summarize meetings with AI, or Google Meet, which also has an AI-powered note-taking tool.

Slack announced the feature as part of its news from Dreamforce 2024.

I don’t love this recent design change to #AppleReminders where every section in a list has a new, empty item to denote creating a new task in that section, even if you aren’t editing the list (which I’m not here).

This feels like a massive waste of space and makes lists more tedious to read and use.

Super dislike, #Apple

Went to the yearly conference on zoom for the open source alternative to my employers product. It was honestly fascinating. The open source alternative is dying outside of government, despite a five year effort to replace it. My employer is on track to become a blatant monopoly within the US as all our competitors also die.

My favorite energy analyst Gregor Macdonald’s latest newsletter is full of harsh realism about the state of the global energy business.
Tl;dr: There is a global surplus of fossil fuels, prices aren’t going to go up, it’s a lousy place to invest, but the much-hoped-for global decline isn’t here yet. If you want to join big-picture conversations about energy and you want to know what you’re talking about, this is a good read: coldeye.earth/p/fossil-fuel-ro…
in reply to Tim Bray

(Gregor's discussion fails to mention one key factor, probably because it is now conventional wisdom: A big reason for the softening demand for fossil fuels is China. Their economy is in rough shape and they're ahead of the world on the transition to renewables. Neither of these is expected to change in the near future.)
in reply to Tim Bray

MacDonald is one of the follows from the before-times I miss most.

And just note

Kamala Harris campaigns even 2 events per day, packing stadiums of 20,000 people

Tim Walz does similar events up to 10,000 people

While on other team

JD Vance is confessing how he lies on TV to get Ohio hospitals & schools closed

And Trump campaigns rigorously by playing golf

Idea Raised For Reducing The Size Of The AMDGPU Driver With Its Massive Header Files

Following the weekend news of the AMDGPU kernel driver becoming too large that it's causing the Plymouth boot splash screen on slower Linux systems to time-out, longtime AMD Linux graphics driver engineer Marek Olšák expressed a new idea for helping to reduce some bloat from this AMD kernel graphics driver...

NetChoice’s shadow is looming over the TikTok hearing.

Judge Sri Srinivasan brought up the Supreme Court’s decisions in NetChoice and another case, Murthy v. Missouri, while questioning DOJ attorney Daniel Tenny.

“Under Netchoice, if we were talking about a US company, that’s heartland First Amendment-protected curation,” Srinivasan said. “So everything on under the government’s perspective turns on the fact that ByteDance is subject to Chinese control.”
