I really wish Damian Grant would stop claiming that he made thousands on asset speculation during COVID because of the Labour government;

The policy settings allowing money grubbing wankers to make huge pots of money out of owning things (often other people's homes) were actually put in place by the NatACT government, under John Key. Labour changed a lot of them, but the effect hadn't become noticeable until after COVID.

Iran defended its decision to fire a barrage of missiles at Israel on Tuesday, calling it a "legal" response to Israeli "terror attacks" following the killing of several senior Hamas, Hezbollah and Iranian officials in recent months.
Videos seen by Middle East Eye showed an apparent missile exploding in the vicinity of the Mossad headquarters on the northern outskirts of Tel Aviv. It was unclear if there was any damage as a result.

The Palestinian Authority Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs has warned of the threat posed by the occupation regime’s Judaisation of Jerusalem, especially its normalisation of a Jewish presence presented as a fait accompli in Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Palestinian Information Centre has reported.
This, said the ministry, is being done through the escalation of armed incursions by Israeli occupation forces and settlers.

The head of Hezbollah’s media office, Mohammad Afif, speaks to reporters in an area hit by Israeli raids in southern Lebanon.
He says the group has enough fighters, weapons and ammunition to push back Israel.
“We assure you, the enemy, that this is only the first round,” Afif told reporters in southern Lebanon. Afif said Israel’s air superiority will “turn into losses on the ground”.

Last week I did a workshop in which I showed how to package a python module/application in obs (Open Build Service) to create an #openSUSE Leap/Tumbleweed package. I'd like to thank @lkocman who did an excellent job guiding the workshop to make it more useful and fun to watch.
If you're interested in Python and want to contribute to openSUSE but don't know how, this can be a good starting point.

Seven people were killed and others wounded in the attack, which took place near Tel Aviv's light rail station in Jaffa on Tuesday.
The attack came as Iran fired a barrage of missiles at Israel, sending hundreds of thousands of Israelis into shelters.
Police on Wednesday published the two attackers' names and said they were residents of the Palestinian city of Hebron in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

In October 1796.
Jane Austen begins writing First Impressions, the first version of Pride and Prejudice (published 1813).
She completed the initial draft in August 1797, aged 21; as with all of her novels, Austen read the work aloud to her family as she was working on it and it became an "established favourite". At this time, her father made the first attempt to publish one of her novels.

in reply to Strypey • • •By 2022, house prices had started to "plunge";
theguardian.com/world/2022/sep…
Combined with changes that increased wages and benefits, this meant that buying a house became accessible to more people in Aotearoa than it had been since the old Housing Department (now Kāinga Ora) stopped giving low-interest home loans to first home buyers.
So what did the new NatACT First government do in their first 100 days? They changed it all back, and starting pumping air back into the housing bubble.

in reply to Strypey • • •NZ govts should be taking advantage of their cheap access to credit to give low-interest home loans to first home buyers. Like they did through the #Housing Department (later Housing NZ/ Kāinga Ora) in the late 1970s.
I'm not sure if the home loans program was cancelled by the 1980s Labour govt or the 1990s National govt. But neither party has restored it since, so they're both responsible for the resulting mass homelessness and the reduced incentive to build affordable housing.
