this is less a story about climate change, and more a story about how poorly run and managed red states in the USA are. Governmental incompetence at the state and local levels. Where are these news stories?

Instead of creating a dedicated swap partition or using a swapfile for Linux, I use Zram swap to create a compressed block device in memory.

Any RAM assigned to it is only used for swapping as-needed (until then, the RAM is still available for use by applications). Performing read/write operations in memory is both a speed boost and reduces wear on SSD drives (at the cost of more CPU-intensive activity).

If you use #k8s for your #homelab, this is your aperiodic reminder to set the reclaim policy to "keep" on any PVs with important data. (This is not the same as Helm's retain flag; that only applies to a few possible events. Reclaim "keep" is a backstop to prevent deletion of the volume No Matter What.)

I slacked on that and now I'm spending the day setting up Jellyfin from scratch and factory resetting a couple of dozen Zigbee devices. Don't be like me. (I've probably got the data in snapshots but no good way to identify it or mount it.)

kubectl patch pv -p '{"spec":{"persistentVolumeReclaimPolicy":"Retain"}}'

Gotta go fast.

Nintendo is adding a pair of speedy GBA games for Switch Online subscribers, with F-Zero: GP Legend and F-Zero Climax, the latter having only previously launched in Japan. They’ll both launch on October 11th. And there’s more: the online racer F-Zero 99 is getting an update today that adds five new tracks.

She is nearly three inches long! I love to see such a big beautiful insect in Manhattan. She lives in some flower pots and was probably born in a garden center. I hope she’s a native species. She’s about big enough to spin her eggs. I hope she was able to find a mate. The dating scene in NYC can be daunting and it’s already fall.

Not sure i agree that it is lack of knowledge. It may be more of a case of early adapters, many people are not early adopters of new technology.

Yeah, and if you already have a car, the decision has to be that your /next/ car will be electric. That might be some years down the line. And for those that buy second hand, there has to be a sufficiently large pool of sufficiently good second-hand electric cars. That could add a few more years. The rate at which the balance is tipping seems okay to me. Maybe it's a bit on the slow side, but OTOH you also ought to make allowance for how conservative people tend to be about big purchases like cars. Faster would be nice, though.
