“Under the delusion of the 'Promised Land', Israel will openly set its sights on [Türkiye].”
Türkiye’s President Erdogan sternly warned Israel against “delusional” ambitions and reiterated Ankara's support for Lebanon, affirming that an Israeli invasion of its northern neighbour “won’t have the same [outcomes]" as Tel Aviv's past invasions had.

I talked to The Verge about this exact problem — good journalism is behind the paywall — a few weeks ago, as we were launching our physical newspaper.
What's worked for The Onion: keep the site free for all, give members a newspaper in the mail to show support—but also get the funniest thing on your coffeetable delivered once a month.
The model has gone gangbusters for us.

EU requests info from YouTube, Snapchat, TikTok on content algorithms
The EU Commission requested information from YouTube, Snapchat and TikTok on the parameters used by their algorithms to recommend content to users and their role in amplifying some systemic risks
The tech firms must provide the requested information by Nov 15, after which the commission will decide on next steps, which could include fines.

Inside: Epic Systems, a lethal health record monopolist; and more!

ooooh boy this is my wheelhouse, except I'm a technologist. Epic is a bloated POS that takes dozens of clicks and moving around different areas of the system to even chart simple changes (place a feeding tube in Radiology? That's 35 clicks of your mouse!)
The sad thing is, it's not even the worst. I have to use Athena now, and that system is an aggressive billing system with the thinnest veil of an EMR system attached to it.
Cory Doctorow reshared this.
@ZombieRasputin I've used Epic in 3 hospital systems. It depends on how each implements it
It's a powerful toolbox that relies on getting enough physician input and the skill/talent of the IT team building it. It's harder to get right than Meditech, Cerner or Athena
University of Colorado is fabulous (for a graphical interface EMR). The hospitals in West Virginia are the worst imo- it actually gets in the way of patient care
So it's not Epic intrinsically
Even stipulating that Epic *can* be implemented in ways that preference clinical outcomes over upcoding, it's important to interrogate why this isn't the case in nearly all its installs.
The Epic sales cycle *specifically* targets hospital administrators and pitches them on upcoding as the secret to ROI.
Epic captured 80% of the US EHR market by telling hospital admins that it is an upcoding tool. The fact that it's used as such is therefore Epic's fault.
@ZombieRasputin Oh absolutely.
It's a conscious choice to implement an EHR to benefit coders and the business office above clinicians.
So it is Epic's fault for pushing that and also that of some hospital bigwigs for accepting/welcoming it
Responsible for their AR system. The EMR was just getting started by my boss (Carl Dvorak, now CEO). We we’re implementing RBRVS into the system - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resource… - and I was asked to basically implement upcoding - show close other ways to code this and the up / down. I refused. “That’s fraud” I believe came out of my mouth. We didn’t add it. Left and moved to MKE in 1992/3? Amazing to see this.
