Yemen’s Houthi group yesterday revealed that a new long-range drone was used for the first time to attack the Israeli city of Eilat earlier in the day.

Houthi aligned Ministry of Defence said: “The Yemeni Armed Forces have used the Samad-4 drone, which has dual mission including reconnaissance and offensive operations.”

According to the site, the Samad-4 drone can reach more than 2,000 kph, and is able not to be picked up by air defences.

Coates' responses were brilliant, and he remained remarkably calm (more than I would have).

The artist today is:
The Wailin' Jennys are a Canadian music group. A 2011 review says they "sing like siblings and play like seasoned veterans".[1] They have released several albums and received two Juno Awards. The group has been featured several times on the American Public Media program A Prairie Home Companion.

A thousand times yes. The first time I ever heard them was when they performed Bird Song on A Prairie Home Companion, and I had to pull my truck over. Their music is my anti-anxiety med.

@HarriettMB I do think that much that Trump does is staged, a kind of manic acting out to draw attention to himself. I also suspect that, increasingly, he simply can't control himself. To me, the signs of serious mental decline are very evident (something I say having seen my mother descend into dementia). I think this is why he's refusing to do onto "60 Minutes." He and his handlers know it would be a colossal mistake, since he's not mentally fit.

The Israeli military said one of its soldiers was killed in combat operations in Lebanon on Wednesday, marking the first loss since its forces crossed the border to target Hezbollah.

"Captain Eitan Itzhak Oster, aged 22, fell during combat in Lebanon," the military said in a statement.

Hezbollah said its fighters were clashing with Israeli troops who had "infiltrated" a southern border village.

Needed headphones for walking the dog / being outside. My requirements were that they were wireless and I could still hear cars / nature. The Soundcore C30i are perfect.

I've never liked "bud" headphones because it's weird having something directly in my ear, and I typically like over-ear headphones (open for at home, closed with noise-cancellation for on a plane).

The C30i is more like you're wearing a small speaker earring so they are super comfy. Neat design!

@jorgesanz Yeah, when I want sound quality I reach for my open / closed headphones. I don't generally like buds, and find listening in only one ear super strange. These don't sound fantastic, but they are perfect for listening to a podcast while walking the dogs. It's good to have options!

New $70 AI Camera works with all Raspberry Pi’s without requiring additional accelerators or a GPU

A Raspberry Pi camera module - square piece of green circuit board with a black camera mounted on it. Below is seen a brown ribbon cable.
It comes with onboard AI processing that can help Raspberry Pi users develop “edge AI solutions that process visual data” with ease, according to the tiny computer maker.

The 12.3 megapixel Raspberry Pi AI Camera can capture footage at either 10 frames per second in 4056 x 3040, or 40fps at 2028 x 1520. It also has a manually adjustable focus, a 76-degree field of view, and measures 25 x 24 x 11.9mm.

It’s refreshing to see some new high-end kit released that does NOT require throwing out the older hardware and having to upgrade (looking squarely at Microsoft here!). This may in fact allow some older Pis to have new life breathed into them.

@saahbs I think it will be pretty light weight. There are already self-hosted photo apps that do basic face, object, etc recognition locally too. But yes we need to see the results of some tests to know.

When watching video of the flooding in Asheville NC from Hurricane #Helene, I was sure I knew something in particular about #Ashville but couldn't place it. Well, they mention it in this ars technica article - that is where NOAA's National Climatic Data Center NCDC is located. I have used this service a lot over the years and have talked with staff there. The irony of a climate data center going offline because of flooding resulting from #ClimateChange is not lost on me.

@Mutesplash

resistance is important. survival is essential. You can’t fight if you’re dead, so fleeing might be the best course of action in a given moment to keep the fight going
