They're not "Masto's" restrictions, they're our server's. Every instance can set its own restrictions. Even with harsh limits like this, media processing and storage is the most expensive part of running an instance AFAIK.
Since most Mastodon servers aren't making Facebook and Twitter levels of money, they can't afford those kinds of data centres xP The size limits suck, but calling them ridiculous is a bit unfair.

Fuuuuu… had a flat tire this morning (again!) and tried to inflate it and this happened… could not find the spare tube I bought, don’t have time to faff about changing it anyway. No ride today.

I may prep the Raleigh for a ride tomorrow…

@jeffeb3 @musicman I don't know anything about tubeless... can you give me a primer or point me to more info? What does that mean for my normal rides on (sometimes rough) city streets?
in reply to Pete Prodoehl 🍕

@jeffeb3 the rougher the terrain, the more tubeless makes sense. the only real downside to tubeless is that the setup is a pain
in reply to Pete Prodoehl 🍕

@musicman I don't know anything about tubeless on road or gravel bikes. My mountain bike has tubeless tires and the rim is tubeless ready. I had to install new valves and add some stans goop. Then it is a pain to get it inflated the first time, but it seals holes and there is no tube. You can run at a lower PSI, so it is great for MTB for extra grip.

Stans is pretty biased, so take the advice there with a grain of salt.

in reply to jeffeb3

@jeffeb3 they use tubeless in the world tour. it's definitely not just for mountain bikes

What the fuck? Who does this?

Spectacle (KDE screenshot utility) just started putting 12-hour times in its filenames, even though I explicitly set the format to be 24-hour.

I look in the settings, and the format specifier in my filename string now means 12-hour? SINCE FUCKING WHEN?

Well y'all, I broke something. I was using Emacs, and was committing a change to a repo like always, when my audio started to studder a bit. I'd noticed that Emacspeak sounds were a big sluggish, but I thought that was Sox being sox or Pipewire messing with something as usual. So I unplugged my Dell docking station, plugged it in again, and things returned to normal until the next time I committed. This time, audio stopped, and, well, never came back. I plugged the dock into my iPhone, and it worked. Windows, worked. Linux though? Nope. Not sure what's going on, but goodness I'm tired of technology. So tired of everything changing and breaking. Google Drive changed, so I'm having to redo the whole course on Google Docs/Drive. And this was not something I was expecting and definitely not something I needed today. So I'm gonna have to look for a way to reset the dock or something.

Israeli forces continued to take heavy losses during their attempts at infiltrating Lebanon on 2 October, forcing them to retreat a number of times.

Lebanon’s Armed Forces confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that an Israeli force withdrew from the Blue Line back to the Israeli side of the border after penetrating 400 meters into Lebanon’s territory.

According to Israeli sources cited by Sky News Arabia, 14 soldiers have been killed so far.
