I'm not sure the difference can be more starkly illustrated than this.

"How do you solve the lack of housing for people?"

Harris: More Houses.

Trump: Less people.

what i want to know is:

how does opening up federal land in say, northern nevada, supposed to help a nurse's aide afford rent in say, tampa florida?

federal land isn't parceled across cities and suburbs, where people need to live, and where the jobs are

federal land is mostly rugged deeply inaccessible wilderness and deserts

so like most #GOP plans, "make federal land available to solve housing" is bullshit, they have no solution, just something gimmicky enough to distract idiots

French Journalist Nada Attallah: "An apartment complex in the southern suburbs of #Beirut was completely destroyed by an Israeli strike overnight.

A neighbour told me that she heard voices coming from the rubble in the morning.
She said it might be the concierge & his children, who had stayed in there."

North Carolina and South Carolina, which are frequently affected by hurricanes and tropical storms, have seen numerous extreme rainfall events in recent years:
- Record-setting rainstorms in October 2015
- Hurricane Matthew in 2016
- Hurricane Florence in 2018
- An unnamed storm in September 2024
- And now #HurricaneHelene

Why these “rare” events are becoming very-not-rare for the Carolinas specifically:

North Carolina Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson was the lone state lawmaker who did not approve Governor Roy Cooper’s request to declare Hurricane Helene an emergency and mobilize emergency services ahead of the deadly storm.

I wrote a blog post with some tips on using #pyenv to manage versions of #python. If you use poetry to build Python modules, poetry in fact plays nice with pyenv and makes use of its virtual environments. I find it much easier to manage virtual environments centrally with pyenv, rather than having lots of directory local installations in .venv/.

It's that time of the European trip where we miss spicy food like in America. Thai is our usual choice when travelling but there's few options in Florence, so we're going Indian.

Well that worked out very well. Deliciously spiced Indian food, inexpensive, a nice break from Italian.
