THE IDEA OF THE “FAUSTIAN BARGAIN” is traced through history from early Christianity to the Charlie Daniels Band in this brilliant, idiosyncratic, sometimes cantankerous, always witty book. Rich in detail, it’s an intellectual delight. A MINUS

I'm expanding Sulpher (the little subset of Neo4j's Cypher I came up with) to be able to build more interesting graph queries.

Here's where it's at now
github.com/ha1tch/rserv/blob/m…

What's next:

 1. Variable-length path expressions
 2. Advanced Relationship Handling (direction, multiple types)
 3. More comprehensive Property-Based Filtering
 4. Advanced Aggregation Functions and Clauses (WITH, ORDER BY)
 5. Parameterisation

 1. Variable-length path expressions:

like, for example:

MATCH p=(alice:User {name: "Alice"})-[*..]->(user:User)
RETURN user.name
Finding all users connected to Alice, regardless of the path length.

.2. Advanced Relationship Handling (direction, multiple types):

MATCH (alice:User {name: "Alice"})-[r:FRIENDS|COLLEAGUES]->(user:User)
RETURN user.name, type(r)
Finding users who are both friends and colleagues of Alice.

mastodon.social/@camelliakyoto… camelliakyoto@mastodon.social - 🪨THE RIDDLE OF RYŌAN-JI'S GARDEN🤔

Ryōan-ji's (竜安寺) dry landscape garden (枯山水 'karesansui') is by far the most famous zen garden in the world.

It is a 'koan' (公案 a zen riddle without a solution, intended to focus & open the mind) written in gravel, rocks and moss.

#JackSmith’s Big New #Jan6 Brief Is a Major #Indictment of #SCOTUS

It’s rare to simultaneously feel red-hot anger & wistfulness, especially when merely reading a document. But those are exactly the emotions that washed over me when I read the redacted version of #SpecialCounsel #JackSmith’s brief reciting in detail the #evidence against #Trump for attempting to subvert the #2020election.

in reply to Nonilex

#JackSmith was following the road map laid out in an opaque & infuriating ruling from #SCOTUS last June, recognizing broad #immunity for presidents from prosecution. At best it will be many months & further appeals, potentially again to the #SupremeCourt, before this could ever get to trial.

in reply to Nonilex

The NYT recently reported on the internal #SCOTUS deliberations, & they paint #ChiefJustice #JohnRoberts, author of the #Trump #immunity decision, as having turned from a justice known for seeking common ground & minimalist outcomes to one set out to protect the office of the [Trump] presidency at all costs.

Here's a new review paper of everything we know about #LongCovid
Some take aways:
- an estimated 65 million people worldwide currently experiencing it
- Prevalence between 5% and 10% in some countries
- Few reliable estimates of the number suffering the most serious, disabling form, but likely over 4 million in the US alone.
- more common in women and older people
- best way to prevent it is to prevent the initial infection

1. A small flock of long tailed tits landed in the rowan tree outside. They are such a delicate pink little birds.
2. My wrist has gone back to normal size after a painful insect bite from an anonymous little black fly.
3. Found a coastal steamer that I presume is permanently docked at Inveraray. It's lovely to see these boats of a bygone age.
