There is absolutely nothing safe about encouraging regular users to subvert security practices just so you don't have to rely on instance admin's consent to scrap or collect data with the goal of "relaying" data.

Tinkered around and experimented with a few things, ended up doing a clean install of #Debian on my laptop and found that, now that non-free firmware is enabled by default, there's no reason to enable the other contrib or non-free repos. Everything "just works" and if there's an app not available from Debian directly I can just get it from Flathub.
I just realized that I had been in such a habit of just always adding non-free and contrib, it never occurred to me I might not need them.
