The story of a disabled Palestinian woman burnt alive by an Israeli soldier
Hweihi was forced to hastily flee the tent the family set up in the courtyard of a school-turned-shelter in northern Gaza’s Jabalia refugee camp.
This was because Israeli troops had suddenly begun to fire live bullets inside the school ahead of storming it during a devastating three-week assault on the camp in May.
Duaa, who was unable to speak or move, was left behind inside the tent because her father couldn’t carry her.
After the soldiers entered the school under the cover of heavy fire, men and women were separated.
Moments later, a soldier poured gasoline on dozens of tents in courtyards before setting them on fire.
His voice drowned out by the hammering blast of tanks and heavy gunfire, Hweihi stood watching silently and hopelessly.
“She was burnt alive while we couldn't move,” he said.

Support for changing the working directory with env(1) has just landed in #FreeBSD. It'll be a part of the upcoming 14.2-RELEASE.
cgit.freebsd.org/src/commit/?i…
What does that mean? Now you'll be able to run:
env -C /tmp make
Instead of:
sh -c "cd /tmp && make"
(Although to be fair make(1) is not the best example as it has its own -C flag.)
The -C flag is compatible with #GNU env as found on most #Linux distros.

Official Civilization VII feedback survey by Firaxis
Thanks for sharing this.
Here's hoping they listen to feedback.
I left this series because it became a buggy mess.
I added "stop making a buggy mess" anywhere I could.
I'm not holding my breath, but I would love to get back into playing Civ again.
I guess there's always Civ II, though. It's quite stable, now, and runs everywhere.
I got into Humankind a little while ago and had loads of fun with that.
Hey @gamingonlinux I’ve noticed on protonDB people are saying GTA 5 online is working on Linux again? Any verification on this?
Palestinian families killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza
Zein was the youngest member of the al-Najjar family, a common surname in Gaza meaning “Carpenter” in Arabic. They lived in Deir el-Balah in the central Gaza Strip.
On October 10, 2023, 18 members of the family – including five children and three women – were killed and 23 others injured in an Israeli air strike on their home. Zein was just two months old.

Liking the new features in the latest Mastodon, especially grouped notifications! I just wish they didn't feel the need for construction sign styled CW's and introducing excessive borders in what was previously a clean looking design. It's reminiscent of what @kde seem to have been trying to get rid of for years and here we are introducing it on Masto.
Still, these gripes are just a CSS file change away on what is otherwise a great release,

> these vaccines reduce transmission
So would staying home when you're sick. Paying people to do so would likely cost the public health system less than 'flu/ 'rona vaccines do.
> vulnerable groups the added boost in protection provided each season can literally be the difference between life and death
Eccepting this for the sake of argument, this is a good reason for those people to have the vaccines. Not everyone.

> potentially averting the inconvenience of relatively mild illness in otherwise healthy people and associated economic losses
Can you point me to any peer-reviewed evidence that those economic losses are greater than economic losses from paying pharmaceutical companies to produce 'flu/ 'rona vaccines? Again, I think it would be cheaper and kinder to do what Asian countries routinely do, support people to mask up and/or isolate when they have symptoms of respiratory illness.
Recent expeditions in Vietnam and China have unveiled two new species of toads with teeth: the Mount Po Ma Lung toothed toad and the Yanyuan toothed toad. These toads, characterized by an unusual row of tiny teeth on the roof of their mouths, belong to the rare Oreolalax genus, known mainly from the two countries. With these discoveries, there are now 21 known toothed toad species.

Many people in jail have the right to vote. So do many felons
People who are in jail and haven't been convicted of a crime — and even many who have been convicted — retain their right to vote. But it's often challenging for them to exercise it.
