The winner of the plants and fungi category focuses on a gnarled old birch tree adorned with pale ‘old man’s beard’ lichens.
Analysis of pollen preserved in the layered sediments shows that the forest has stood here for at least 8,300 years.

US citizens who have been impacted by the ongoing intense hurricane season have expressed their frustrations this week with the lack of attention storm victims have received, comparing it with the increase in US government spending on Israel’s expanding wars in the Middle East.
Over 230 died in several states during Hurricane Helene when it struck the south coast of the country in late September.

Es ist unglaublich schade, dass #DeltaChat nicht bekannter ist. Ein echter Chat, der auf Email basiert. Kann wirklich jeder nutzen, mit und ohne Smartphone. Verschlüsselt auf dem Gerät. Kann niemand mitlesen. Man braucht nicht mal eine Telefonnummer, nur eine Email-Adresse. Auch Telefonat bzw. Video-Gespräch ist damit möglich. Und noch vieles andere mehr wie Spiele, gemeinsamer Kalender etc.

Extremist settlers attacked the village of Umm Safa, northwest of Ramallah, yesterday evening.
Local sources reported that settlers attacked citizens’ homes on the outskirts of the village, threw stones at them and set fire to the surrounding area.
In an advisory opinion issued in July, the International Court of Justice deemed Israel’s occupation of the West Bank illegal and called for it to come to an end within a year.

At least 45 more Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip, bringing the overall death toll since last year to 42,010, the Health Ministry in the enclave said on Wednesday.
A ministry statement added that some 97,720 others were injured in the ongoing assault.
“Israeli forces killed 45 people and injured 130 others in three massacres of families in the last 24 hours,” the ministry said.
