Republicans threaten to punish colleges that allow pro-Palestinian protests - theguardian.com/us-news/2024/o… "House majority leader outlines plan of attack on universities that fail to quash criticism of Israel" freedom of speech, what's that?
in reply to Glyn Moody

Weren't Texas trying to force Facebook to host Nazi speech not that long ago?

Last day to sign a European Citizen’s Initiative to tax the rich.

Not looking good.

*sigh*

Thank fuck the French Revolution didn’t require people to sign an online form or it might have all been just too much effort for some folks.

No surprise if people aren't signing an on-line form: with all the scams going around, it is more likely that I'd ignore one based on the idea that it is better to be safe than sorry.

Maybe it is better in Europe, but it is so bad in the U.S. that I'd quip that our national motto should be "Scams R Us" given the texts and emails I get.

I wasn't sure I was ready to read about another virus. Throw in a coming-of-age tale during the end of the world as we know it, and the next thing I knew I had devoured 80 pages when I only meant to take a peek at the first chapter. My review of American Rapture is posted at wellwortharead.blogspot.com/20… #bookstodon

I pre-ordered this and can't wait for it to come! How did it compare to Maeve Fly (if you read that one)?
in reply to Mother Suspiria

@stina_marie This was my very first read by her. I missed out on Maeve Fly but need to get a copy. I had too many ARCs when it came out.

China to head green energy boom with 60% of new projects in next six years - theguardian.com/environment/20… "IEA says faster clean energy rollout being led by solar power in China with country set to boast half of world’s #renewables by 2030" the west still doesn't get it
in reply to Glyn Moody

Even if we import panels we can still reduce our need to import fuel whilst cutting CO2. Could it be that fossil fuel lobbying has held us back?
in reply to Steve

@steevc I think they have been spreading lots of lies about solar, so probably

ok but look at this, the University of Sydney has a digital collections library and several online jigsaw puzzles

@mwl either your quote bot is wrong or I’m wrong.

But I seem to remember seeing that .internal was making progress through the approva / reservation process recently.

It was right when I wrote it.

And I'll believe in .internal when it's canonized, not before. I've been disappointed too many times.

“The United States needs to reflect upon its behaviour and really achieve consistency in whatever rules they are preaching to the rest of the world.

Because mankind really has eyesight and has a brain and can see what they are doing. It is time for the United States to really rise up to the occasion and stop the atrocities being committed against the Palestinian people.”

I don't remember planting any peppers, but have 3 of these growing in different pots and this little guy has already produced a little flower.

Have no idea what kind of #pepper it is.

It will be exciting to see.

Some good news for Good Games.

The abrupt closure of Humble’s publishing division left a number of indie developers in a state of uncertainty. But now a new label headed by former Humble staff, called the Good Games Group, has formed, with the goal of “working with the amazing indie developers we collaborated with at Humble Games, while also allowing us to chart a new course for the future.”

That's why you'll never see Edward Scissorhands as a player. He'll always get the ball, and shred it.

They don't have that problem with Geoffrey Rockhands or Scotty Paperhands.
