GitLab 17.4 was released a few weeks ago, in which I contributed what I think is an important and impactful rework of the empty project page.
I've been working across several GitLab instances in the last year, and each time I wanted to push some work to a new project I had to manually modify the git commands provided by GitLab because they weren't matching my needs (global git config instead of local, SSH clone when my firewall allows only HTTPS...).
Not anymore. I reworked this page to display every available option in a clear and readable manner. Now one can simply choose the config one wants and copy it with a single click. You can see the changes (before / after) in the pictures.
It was my first significant contribution to GitLab, it took me way more time than expected but the GitLab team helped me a lot and I learned along the way, so it was a really good experience. For the curious you can find the MR here : gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-…
I'm curious to hear from the developer community if that is a change that will impact you too ?
c-squares: render squares in the terminal window (c language)
cross-posted from: lemmy.world/post/20670854
gitlab.com/christosangel/c-squ…
c-squares written in the C language will render random coloured rectangulars in the terminal, while the font, speed, density, color, ratio and number of the shapes drawn are fully costumizable.
Every time a rectangular is complete, a new one starts to take shape.

A script is more about the program rather than the language. You can write a script in assembly or C++ or whatever
tetris11
in reply to embed_me • • •Is it? I thought a script is a portable and instantly grokkable piece of code that can be easily modified by others, since it uses very little actual code in itself (e.g. by being reliant on larger imported frameworks), and thus not being a full-fledged application.
The above code is pretty much self-contained, and though it is impressively minimal, it is not instantly grokkable, and I would have a hard time modifying it.
embed_me
in reply to tetris11 • • •Need not necessarily be grokkable as long as its application and scope is clear
tetris11
in reply to embed_me • • •Well that's a fair point.

Also, c-squared would have been an amazing name based on a math pun. Lol
Also, this looks awesome and I love it.

This is a project that makes my linux experience more pleasant.
Is this a project that might interest other linux users, or might make their experience better?
Judging from the 49 upvotes so far, yes.
Do you share the same opinion? I don't know.
If not, feel free to downvote, and/or move on.
