Netanyahu calls on Lebanese people to ‘stand up’ to Hezbollah youtube.com/watch?v=ywxLWyEyrf…
in reply to #TuckFrump

When will the people of Israel stand up to Netanyahu and his hard line, far right friends. We have a plan for a two state solution to all this bloodshed, but he does not want a two state, solution. I get the idea others DO and would be happy to try and find a two state solution so that Jews and Palestinans can live together and build something far better.

Liskov’s Gun: The parallel evolution of React and Web Components

baldurbjarnason.com/2024/lisko…

This is a bit of an experiment. Probably the longest essay I've published directly on my website. 🙂

in reply to Baldur Bjarnason

Fantastic post. My only minor quibble is that I do think the React team has kept innovating – concurrent rendering and RSCs come to mind. Although I'm not convinced the first is a great idea (nolanlawson.com/2022/10/22/sty…) and the second seems to be heavily dividing the React community, I have to give them credit for having the guts to try new stuff even though they're the clear market leader.
in reply to Nolan Lawson

BTW I never understood the whole Liskov substitution thing until this post. It's not just a problem for built-ins, but also web component libraries that allow subclassing. Any change to the superclass is effectively a breaking change unless the subclass automatically gets the new behavior somehow (e.g. super.connectedCallback).
in reply to Nolan Lawson

@nolan This was always true! We wanted to add traits or some other factoring mechanism to allow for decomposition, but TC39 could barely do intrinsic subclassing w/ `class` syntax in a ~timely way.
in reply to Nolan Lawson

@nolan Thanks! And, yeah, I'm definitely not giving React much credit or even the benefit of doubt.

Though, I think it's fair to say that the jury is still out on a lot of their innovations and that they don't really make up for the overall harm that comes from React's popularity

And if they do come up with something genuinely novel and reusable, people can always steal the idea 🙂

▶️ With Hurricane Milton bearing down on the U.S. Gulf Coast, staff at the Florida Aquarium in Tampa began moving its community of nine African penguins from their usual habitat on the first floor to higher ground on Tuesday, safe from any potential storm surges.

#voanews

Ground zero for #Milton is now Sarasota, FL. It has a population of 60k, but Tampa-St. Pete is just 5o miles away. That’s 3.5 million more. The fiercest eyewall is very tight, but the storm is wide. Tampa will get smacked, hard.

The University of Arizona's Global Advantage program actively recruits multinational arms manufacturers and tech companies and provides the logistical, legal and material support for them to base their operations in Southern Arizona.

In a 2017 interview with the Times of Israel, Bruce Wright, then-associate VP of Tech Parks Arizona (which hosts Raytheon), explained that the project’s goal was to “foster an economy that is borderless and unconstrained.”
in reply to Unicorn Riot

Israeli tech & weapons giants are among UA Global Advantage program’s main targets for recruitment.

Like Gaza, the Southern Arizona borderlands offer such companies an ideal laboratory for testing systems of surveillance and control - and making large profits in the process.

Aaay, I have a fancy new website design!

I wanted something that clearly explains why, as a musician, I don't wanna have my art mediated by the likes of Zuck, Ek, Musk and Bezos.

For the first time ever, I even done a manifesto! Put it to the test-o.
