Last Thursday, a herd of haggii broke into George McCormack's shop in Aviemore and polished off over 600 Tunnocks Teacakes!

Edited to change 'haggises' to 'haggii' based on community feedback. I wholeheartedly apologise for this mistake - the last thing I would want to do is to spread false information on this esteemed group...

What does it mean to say a license is "compatible with the GPL?" It means [...] you can combine code released under the other license with code released under the GNU GPL in one larger program. Read the full answer: u.fsf.org/3u6

To people complaining it took 3d to get Helene aid into WNC, recall. Day 1: WNC was cut off by road from the N, S, E & W. (I couldn't get across town.) Day 2: NCDOT didn't reopen I-26 to SC until mid-afternoon. If help began arriving in bulk on Day 3? Duh. (FEMA arrived in Asheville B4 Helene.)

Let's have a little teaser thread for this week's Other People's Music, eh? In this thread I'll post the first line of my coverage for each act, a link/embed to the music, and their account on this site (where relevant).

If you're intrigued but want to read more about any act, or just want to tackle the whole post, no tease needed, you can find this week's entry here:

wow I’m not sure it will works but nice try. I do wonder why Americans don’t build solids houses 🤔

Something I can answer!

Due to the property valuation system in the USA, the land a home is built on appreciates in value quickly. The home built on it does not appreciate as quickly, in most cases. Before the mortgage is paid off, the value of the home will be a small portion of the total. Future purchaser will replace the house with something matching the property value.

Therefore, most homes are built to be torn down, with an expected service life of 25-35 years.

When folks mention Israeli hostages, I think of Palestinians in "administrative detention". When folks mention North Korean gulags, I think of the US prison system. Locking people up sucks, no matter who's doing it. Instead of wasting billions punitively, solve the real problems.

This year’s GOP platform mentions #abortion once – quite the shift from 35 times in 2016.

Democrats, on the other hand, are making reproductive rights a central campaign theme.

And for voters – abortion is still a key issue this #election2024.

As noxious as this is, I'd say "the mingling of politics & money" is literally the least of our concerns if there is ever a second Trump term.

@jik Not to mention the fact that this “question” has been well, truly, & frequently answered already by Trump & his corrupt, grifting family & their vile cohorts.
