@gwaldby It terrifies me that this election is considered even close. What terrifies me more is I’ve read that some are alleging it’s tightening up again. Why? Just why? I know that some people really work hard to remain ignorant of #Project2025 and all the damage it will do, because #Democrats are evil babykillers and…oh, never mind, I can’t even write this out anymore without wanting to throw things and put my fist through walls.
in reply to Kevin LaRose, Antifa Member

@Thumper1964 @gwaldby Nowadays the election is the thing I'm _least_ hopeless about.
The polls seem to be weighting their results to reflect the 2020 or 2022 voting demographics.
But the 2024 voting demographics are going to be nothing like 2020 or even 2022, because of Dobbs and Harris.
Remember that most polls predicted a red wave in 2022. How'd that work out?
A victory for the Democrats definitely isn't a sure thing, but I'm confident it's more likely than the polls are saying.

@jik @Thumper1964 @gwaldby

You are more confident than I! Whenever I look at the swing state poll numbers, I get chest pain. (And I'm a coronary artery dissection survivor, so that's...bad.)

The *ignorance* of all that has happened over the past few years, what's happening now, & what will happen if T wins is just astounding. And the one-issue voters (covid conscious, pro-Israel, & anti-Israel, alike) all refusing to vote Harris - the sheer, burn-it-down *stupidity* of them - is infuriating.

in reply to Jonathan Kamens 86 47

@jik @Thumper1964 @gwaldby the only thing that might make the gop extremist funders rethink strategy will be taking back the congress with a fillibuster proof majority and flip a few state house. Along with electing Harris.
in reply to Jonathan Kamens 86 47

@jik I hope you're right. (My ballot is already at the clerk's office but I'll still be very anxious on Election Day proper and hitting refresh constantly.)
in reply to Garrett Wollman

@wollman Put it this way: I am significantly more worried about the inevitable violence when Harris wins, and about corrupt GOP governors and legislatures and Supreme Court justices stealing the victory from her, than I am worried about her actually losing the election.

@jik I have been worried for four years about the inevitable violence to come when Trump kicks it, and I wasn't even considering the possibility of assassination attempts.

A careful, exhaustive and randomized study finds that subsidizing child care works ...

... really, really well:

"Using tax data and other administrative records, they found that every dollar spent on a program providing free, full-time day care for preschoolers generated $6 in economic benefits. Most of that return came from extra pay that parents could earn because they had additional hours of care for their kids."

Reminder to anyone in the path of #Milton

When speaking to your insurance, do NOT use the word "flood". No matter what your claim is, do NOT say that word. Use the following words ONLY:

- hurricane
- wind-driven rain

Your insurance will try to trick you into turning it into a flood claim, so they can then categorically deny it. Don't fall for it.

Terrific advice.

"So how would you describe the interior of the house?"

"Undry"

"Would you say it was flooded?"

"Did I stutter? It was undry from wind-driven rain."

"So it was flooded."

"Your words. Not mine."

in reply to Yakyu Night Owl

@YakyuNightOwl

"So how would you describe the interior of the house?"

"Damaged from wind-driven rain."

"Would you say it was flooded?"

"No, it was hit by a hurricane."

"So it was flooded."

"No it was damaged by wind-driven rain from the hurricane that hit it."

Severe solar storm could supercharge auroras across US, impact power grids, NOAA warns byteseu.com/482884/ #EverythingScience #Science

"Hurricane Milton is expected to unleash its greatest force over hundreds of thousands of immigrants who don’t speak English, most of them Latin Americans harvesting oranges and tomatoes in the fields along Florida’s I-4 corridor, washing dishes in restaurants, cleaning hotel rooms and working construction.

For the Spanish speakers and a smaller number of African refugees , new lives in the U.S. were already a daily struggle because of the language barrier and lack of resources.

Milton has turned those obstacles into a matter of life and death."

Of course, a big part of it is fear of deportation, skepticism of help being offered by people in military and police uniforms, and justifiable doubt about reassurances that citizenship status will not be checked.

Anyone who says "I will harm whoever strikes my kid," if he is not regularly training, is just masturbating. You can say that you'd kick someone's butt for hurting your kid all you want, or that you'd grab a weapon and hurt them with it, but statements like that are totally meaningless ego stroking if you are not ready.

Violent altercations involve a great deal of stress. The less inoculated you are to combat stress, the more likely you are to either freeze up or submit to your opponent. Train or expect to lose, it is as simple as that.

Reddit is the worst. I said anti-semitism was justified and good and they banned me for "threatening violence". It was a bullshit lie, then I appealed it and stated it as such and they just left it. Fuck reddit.
