The US power system keeps getting cleaner. This is how it has been achieved:
1) There has been a substantial increase in the use of renewable sources, including wind, solar and hydroelectric power. The reduced cost of solar and wind has made them more competitive with traditional fossil fuels.
2) Coal has been reduced as a result of stricter environmental regulations and cheap fossil gas. The decline in coal use has accounted for ~60% of emission reductions from the power sector since 2005.

#RIP “Ethel Kennedy, the widow of Robert F. Kennedy and a fierce human rights advocate, died on Wednesday after suffering a stroke, a family member confirmed to CBS News. She was 96 years old.
She suffered a stroke in her sleep on Oct. 3, her grandson Joe Kennedy posted on social media earlier this week. He said she was "getting the best care possible" and was "surrounded by family."
I used to make fun of my dad for always using a Windows 95 theme on more modern Windows versions and even some Linux distros.
But here I am, in the year of our Lord 2024, still thinking Xubuntu’s Greybird is one of (if not the) best desktop themes ever 👨🏼🦳

Battle Over #Ballot Drop Boxes Rages On in #Wisconsin as Officials Put Them at Center of #Election Integrity Debate
—
Ballot drop boxes have morphed into vessels for emotion, suspicion and conspiracy theories. In Wisconsin, their mere presence has inspired community leaders to reject them or call on people to watch them 24/7. A mayor even hijacked one.

Per the last paragraph, the argument is not about a box. It's about the right to vote. It's about fighting back against Republican attempts to suppress the vote, and to make the voting system itself illegitimate.
Ballot boxes are relatively inexpensive, and easy to secure and monitor. They are easy to use and help more people vote. Republicans hate that because it means they don't always win and that makes democracy corrupt. That belief is what's really corrupt.
Washington is a vote by mail state. Everyone votes by mail. Although we can drop our ballots into a mailbox so the USPS delivers it, many of us prefer to go into town and put it into the dropbox near the library.
If I see any weird characters monitoring that dropbox when I drop off my ballot, I will be calling the police. That shit might be acceptable in Texas in Arizona, but it doesn’t fly here.

What's happening to archive.org? Is it the end of an era? Or, a sign that someone should put up an archive of Web Archive somewhere?

They were hacked and user data was stolen, they're also under a DDoS attack.
All the reports I've seen seem to indicate that the archive data is safe, just publicly inaccessible ATM.
I wouldn't say it's the end of an era, but also standing up "an archive of Web Archive" is going to be impractical unless someone has a couple million to burn. Last I saw they stood at 40 PBs (Yes, Petabytes, or 40,000 TBs)
@cm0002 Wow. That's including the books they archived? Or, just the websites?
O_O I didn't hear about the user data issue.
Hmm… I wonder how long it has been going on. It took a couple of weeks before I got a reply from them that an admin unintentionally deleted my account, now that you mentioned it, my account probably got squeezed between spam accounts or something. (I was just advised to create a new account, and sadly only lists can be restored. T_T )
