My prediction is that the useless critter will eventually be canned. But not before millions of dollars of public money vanish into the pockets of #MOLE trainers;

Callaghan's GovGPT provides yet another example of the PT Barnum level hyperbole people engage in, when trying to rent out a Trained #MOLE;

He's just wrong that they're not already designed that way.
He either doesn't know about NZ government website standards like Web Accessibility Standard 1.1;

... or he's hoping that you don't.

A while back, Phil Pennington (@ppennin) reported on Ministry of Education staff meeting with SalesBros from BorgSoft. Trying to scare up more ways for government departments to give their company free money (see next post).

Perhaps GovGPT was one of a number of projects that came out of meetings like this?

in reply to Strypey • • •The public interest is not best served by giving BorgSoft more public money to use their Trained #MOLE. The public purse already pays a ludicrously expensive All-of-Government license to BorgSoft to use their hopelessly insecure-by-design desktop/ laptop OS.
Yes the one crashed just recently by CrowdStrike. Who are a third-party security company, who had live commit access to the proprietary kernel of Windows. With no code review or testing at BorgSoft before pushing updates.

in reply to Strypey • • •That ludicrous All-of-Government license with BorgSoft also includes
their hosted Office software. When govt IT staff could host OnlyOffice+NextCloud for a fraction of the cost. Which would give public service entities much greater control over the security of their information and communications.

in reply to Strypey • • •I mean, do BorgSoft email systems even support sending encrypted email? Because if not, anyone can get a copy of all emails sent and received from Parliament. By packet sniffing everything sent from its internet connections.
I'd like to think the NZ government are smart enough to think about this. But I don't. Remember them conducting Cabinet meetings over Zoom during pandemic lockdowns?

What I didn't predict was that Callaghan Innovation itself would be canned;

I wonder if any of them will be taking over GovGPT, or whether it will get canned, as it should. Or maybe refactored on top of a local fork of DeepSeek, build locally from source. Including the "training" data, if its "open source" in a meaningful sense.
