A bill called the ‘Stop Resistance Activities by Federal Employees Act’ was introduced in the House yesterday. It covers federal employees at or above GS-15 and would impose very serious penalties for “opposing, obstructing, or impeding lawful directives from the President, Vice President, or any other political appointee”.
The language is….well it’s fascism. And I’m not exaggerating. And maybe it won’t pass this time, but we all see the trend.

Another week, another increase for @heiseonline
#Mastodon keeps growing (the last time, we got this much #traffic, was at the beginning of the year), #Bluesky, too. No big jumps, but we'll see, where it leads.
#Threads still brings very little, #Twitter stays weak.
As always, this is the traffic to heise.de via the different social media platforms.
Edit: In the graph, Mastodon, Bluesky and Threads are stacked together (as they are they biggest Twitter-alternatives).
2nd Edit: Graph added.

Breaking character for a moment, because the Mastodon instance my bots are running on is shutting down soon. muffinlabs.com/posts/2024/10/2…
Does anyone have recommendations for well-run instances that bot accounts are welcome to migrate to?

Tell us again how the actions that would allow us to avoid the #ClimateCrisis were “too expensive.”
None of the record-breaking, historic or “100 year” events we’ve been seeing a lot of lately are the “new normal.” Because it’s actually going to keep getting exponentially worse.

Hot take from Dr. Seeta Peña Gangadharan, keynote speaker @AoIR
In response to the risks to privacy of Quantum Computation. Her point summarized:
Civil disobedience through technological refusal can work, we just need to make it more timely. To be more timely it has to be a refusal from within (aka from the developers of Quantum Computing). To be able to do this she suggests finding alternative means to conduct research on the topic and remain independent.
Personally, while acts of refusal are important for discourse, it's the development of alternative systems that will protect the people. #solarpunk #aoir2024
To all the new followers, hello and welcome 👋
If you just discovered Readeck after Omnivore's announcement yesterday, I have good news for you!
Readeck 0.15.4 was just released and it includes a new import wizard for Omnivore.
You can download it from there:
readeck.org/en/download
While it does import the content and the labels, it can't unfortunately import the highlights.
Many thanks to the users who tested the import before the release! ❤️

Do we allow bots on Beige?
Riker Googling seems like a good match for Beige.party.
