Feeling terrible because you missed your #deadline to #register or request your #ballot?

You can still MAKE A DIFFERENCE by reaching out to at least two friends or family members, either abroad or stateside, and telling them how important this election is!

Talk to them and make sure they VOTE!

Then you'll feel better, knowing you helped ensure a victory for #HarrisWalz2024 and to #FflipTheHouseBlue and #KeepTheSenate!

Smashing the limits: Installing Windows XP in DOSBox-X

A couple of months ago, I tried to install (the unsupported) Windows XP in DOSBox-X. Well, it was not easy.

Oddly I get snarky comments when I read the on-line Guardian, but I can read it on here without any, so on here is where I will read it.

I've been using Searxng (the @disroot instance) for the past 6 months. Especially during the past few weeks almost always the first n results are Reddit posts, where I expected to get the a company's website or a news website or StackOverflow threads. I'm now more inclined to try @kagihq . I hope they give good results or I have no choice but to switch back to Google (and Bing).

Although #SearXNG was the only service I was using from Disroot, for the time being i'll keep my donations active.

Have you customized SearX?

SearX only "proxies" results from other search engines.

Also, Kagi does have business with yandex if I remember correctly

@disroot @kagihq

@selea
As far as I remember, no, I'm using the default settings that the @disroot instance has. I'm not even logged in, so I think I cannot set any fundamental setting that gets applied to all my searches across all my computers and browsers.

I'll later take a look and try to compare.

About @kagihq, I have not give them a real try. I think some weeks back I created an account to test and then I had a bigger fish to fry. If they have ties with Yandex IJSC, that's a pretty big red-flag for me.

in reply to Mehrad :kde: :emacs: :rstats:

You can set things on searc without logging in. in fact you cant login to searx. the settings are saved in your browser cokkies. So good to scroll through them or send some screenshots to support@disroot.org (email) with settings as well as some search results and queries so we could try to reproduce.
in reply to Mehrad :kde: :emacs: :rstats:

Thanks a lot for donating. I apreaciate a lot your contribution. I wonder how exaclty it provides bad results. I (@muppeth) use searx as my daily driver and pretty much have no problems. So perhaps it's some setting you did or specific language results that create issues. Would be good to look into it and see if there is an issue to fix. Hit us up via email on support@disroot.org or DM here on fedi to try and get to the bottom of things.

Trying a simple abd lazy compost solution..

Had a 1m of 10cm PVC pipe I was planning to use for a hydroponic project that I gave up and decided to try a lazy man's compost solution with it.

Made a lot of holes in the first 20cm of the pipe (with 3 and 5mm drill bits) and pushed it into a pot I used to have a tomato plant in. Planted some mint around it and put a small pot on top to work as the cover I may plant sometimes there later.

Whenever I have some #vegetables left over, I put them in the pipe and will have good compost in it by the summer as the worms in the pot go in an out of the holes, eating the vegetable and turn it to #fertilizer.

At the same time, I am going to have unlimited mint to have for tea or salad.

I may cover and paint the pipe, or maybe cover it with some wood I saved from orange boxes to make it look pretty.
