In May 2023, the ESA’s Exomars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) sent a signal to Earth to simulate a possible extraterrestrial transmission. As part of the multidisciplinary art project “A Sign in Space,” the purpose was to engage citizen scientists in helping to decode it. After a year of attempts, the father-daughter team of Ken and Keli Chaffin managed to crack the code after days of simulations.

Even Martin Shkreli tweeting his support for Kamala Harris because he got screwed over by one of Trump's sons

Truly there is no honor among grifters

h/t @davidgerard

in reply to Grant Gulovsen

I think it's totally hilarious how much Shkreli is telling on himself here. He's completely unabashedly admitting that if there had been money in it for him he would totally have supported Trump, but since he got screwed, instead he'll be petty and support Harris just to screw the Trumps back.
No morals whatsoever. Complete sociopath.
People like this are a scourge on society.

Can someone explain to me how it makes sense for someone who has been in the fedi for many years, has many followers and follows, and has over 14,000 posts, not to know how ridiculous to it is to post something that says "for anyone local" without any indication whatsoever of what "local" means?
Note: DO NOT go looking for this person. I do not mean this as an attack on them, this is just an example. I'm trying to understand because I've seen it before and it just makes no sense to me.

Fwiw The message sounds like it's intended for those who will know exactly what it refers to. That is , people that are part of his /her local circle. So only meaningful to those who know the poster well enough to know what local is for him /her.
in reply to jhall251

@jhall251 Maybe so. But anybody who has over a thousand followers probably has a large proportion who aren't local, and it seems kinda rude to one's non-local followers to post a local message without mentioning where one is. It doesn't seem like an effective use of the medium.
Also, if you want to get the word out, you presumably want your followers to boost, which they'll be reluctant to do if the message doesn't say where it's for.
Also, there are locality hashtags for a reason.
Just sayin'.
